I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. EN9VC-IIIb-1.2/2.2 identify the modals through completing a table,
b. EN9V-IIIb-29 differentiate each modal through identifying its mood or how it is expressed in the
sentence,
c. EN9VC-IIIb-1.2/2.2 recognize the function of each modal through constructing sample sentences
using modals.

What is our topic last meeting? Basic Sentence Pattern

Kindly identify what sentence pattern is. Sentence Pattern-refers on the ways on how to put
the words in the sentence together.
-a pattern on how to construct a sentence
according to the order of the elements; subject, verb,
object, complement.
Kindly enumerate and shortly discuss the 5
basic sentence pattern. 1. S-IV pattern
-made up of a subject and a verb plus any
modifiers and there is no complement or completer;
therefore, the verb is intransitive.
2. S-LV-C pattern
-composed of a subject, linking verb and
complement. It uses the verb “be” and all its forms;
be, is, am, are, was, were, been, being.
3. S-TV-DO pattern
-made of a subject and a verb and a direct
object. The verb is transitive because it is acting upon
an object directly.
4. S-TV-IO-DO pattern
-consists of a subject, a verb, an indirect object
and a direct object.
5. S-TV-DO-OC pattern
-consists of a subject, a verb, direct object and
objective complement. The objective complement,
which is either a noun that renames the direct object
or an adjective that describes the direct object.

Kindly define what modal is. Modal-is a special kind of auxiliary verb that are
always used with the main verb but modal verbs
express an attitude to what we say.
In English, we have a lots of modals but for
today I will discuss to you the six examples of modal
verb.

what is modal? Modal-is a special kind of auxiliary verb that are

when you are asking or giving permission in an
informal way.
2. Could-use when you are requesting in a polite way
and stating a wish.
3. May- use when you are stating possibility and

way.
4. Might- use when you are stating possibility and
giving advice or suggestion.
5. Will-use when you are commanding
authoritatively and showing willingness to do
something.
6. Would-use when you are stating your habitual
action and stating desire.

As a student of today’s century, is it necessary


to learn these modals? Yes ma’am!

How important it is to learn these modals? It is important because it can state the sentences in a
polite way and we can also know how to add modals
in every moods that we expressed according to our
feelings/emotions.

How will you apply your learnings about


modals to your daily schooling? Cite some instances. I will apply my knowledge about modals through
using it in my daily conversation. The use of modals
can show respect and polite manner to the person
whom I talked to.
