5. SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS, COMMENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1 Evaluative (mandatory) / Non-evaluation (Non-mandatory) parameter applicable for
qualifying Minimum Performance criteria as per Clause-4 (Table-1) of IS: 12207-2008
for acceptance of the tractor for the purpose of subsidies/NABARD financing are

5.2 Salient Observations:

5.2.1 Laboratory tests:

5.2.1.1 PTO Performance:

i) The backup torque is 35.8 %.
ii) The specific fuel consumption corresponding to maximum Power was
measured as 290 g/kWh against the declaration of 285 g/kWh and meets the
requirements of IS: 12207-2008 with regard to tolerance.
iii) The percentage drop in maximum power during natural ambient and high
ambient condition was observed as 8.7 %, which was considered on higher
side. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.
iv) The maximum PTO power during normal ambient condition was observed at
Engine speed of 2300 RPM whereas the maximum PTO power during high
ambient condition was observed at Engine speed of 1948 RPM .
This observation indicates that the performance of tractor during high ambient
condition is not normal.
This should be examined and improved.

v) The PTO power at Rated engine speed during Normal and High ambient
condition was observed as 44.6 and 38.2 kW respectively. There is significant
difference (14.24 %) in the power observed during Normal and High ambient
condition.
This should be examined and improved.

Vi) After the maximum torque speed, the engine is having tendency of sudden
drop and cope up in engine speed (30-40 RPM) each time when further
loading is done.

5.3 Maintenance / Service problems:

No noticeable maintenance and service problems was observed during the test..

5.4 Recommendation with regard to safety on tractor:

The following requirements, inter-alia, may be considered for incorporation on the
tractor as per relevant Indian Standards:
i) Provision of spark arresting device in exhaust system.
ii) “Minimum cautionary notice” as per clause 11.2 of IS:12239 (part-2)-1999
iii) Provision of Master shield for PTO shaft
iv) Provision of front tow hook.

5.5 Adequacy of Literature:

5.5.1 No literatures were supplied with the test tractor for reference during the test:-

5.5.2 The literature should be brought out for guidance of users.
