“Think before you speak.

Read before you think” well said by an American

Author, Fran Lebowitz(Public Speaker) that explicit words portray every
thinking starts from the act of reading something, where Engineering is the
problem(Reading), then Technology is Solution(Thinking of new ideas). For me
Reading newspaper is one of the daily tasks from my school days, still, I
remember those days of my final year Higher Secondary school Education,
thinking about what to do next after completion of school studies. The day
which made me realize what I want to become, June 29th, 2014, in that morning
when I started reading the newspaper, as usual, it’s a horrific headline 55people
dead in a collapse of an eleven-story under-construction building at
Moulivakkam in the suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Then latterly
investigations revealed that the main cause of this accident was the construction
of building on a pond area without proper foundation and soil testing. Real
Estate and builder’s motive to money which made the lives of humans
/customers put at stake. After that, studies about the world’s great structures
raised my curiosity towards the construction field and aim to be a qualified
Civil Engineer by that I can provide a safe and secure place for every people. In
the basic psychological human needs from ancient times to till now, shelter the
one which has certain standards to build.

During my primary school days, I closely involved in arts and participated in

various drawing competitions and won 2nd place at the regional level, then I
started continuing in my school life as a passion. Though I interested in arts, I
still showed my best in studies with a good percentage of 93.4% in secondary
education. In my 12th grade, I scored a secured a total of 93.58% with 99% in
mathematics and 91% in French.

With a good academic profile, I was focused on opting for civil engineering and
I got an admission for undergraduate studies in a premier Institute R.M.K
Engineering College, Chennai (affiliated to Anna University, Chennai)
which is one of the reputed colleges in the city, I was extremely happy and
decided to make the best use of the opportunities offered.

Right from the second year, my kind of preparation was to gain knowledge and
subject in depth rather than just getting marks though I was able to put up good
marks on board. The curriculum for Civil engineering course wide-opened my
ideas to the gamut of subjects other than drafting where various courses
Fluid Mechanics, Surveying, Design of Steel Structures, Structural Analysis,
Highway Engineering, Concrete Technology provided me strong theoretical
concepts of Civil Engineering which boosted up the academic performance. But
I found “Principles of Management” very interesting as it forms the heart of
executing any Construction.

As knowing my interest in construction management my adviser in

undergraduate, professor Aiswarya advised me to take NPTEL online classes on
“CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT”, which thought managing skills in civil
projects and scheduling in detail. Hence, desire to develop deeper into this area
made me choose elective courses of “Construction Planning and Scheduling”,
“Estimation, Costing and Valuation engineering”. During the third year, three
weeks of summer training on “ADVANCED SURVEY USING TOTAL
STATION & HANDHELD GPS”, exposed an intensive idea to digital
estimation and survey. This onsite experience is also a key factor opting to
choose Masters in this specialization. Other than this the undergraduate projects
where on the basis of Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering,
Mini project “DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF PILE FOUNDATION FOR A
RESIDENTIAL BUILDING”, which was a group project done by our four-
member team. As a project leader, I came up with lots of problems like getting
the tasks done by every teammates, planning & designing a pile foundation for
the corresponding site requirements and time to project completion. As I believe
it is the only field where one’s work can be seen and felt directly by the senses
and anything done stays forever to the credit, however for all the hard work we
got a better credit. Other than this made to trained in Leadership skills,
Presentation skills, Indefatigable working, and other technical skills. By this
project, the design and monitoring of structural members, Extreme load testing
analysis, Foundation design for buildings and other domains of structural
engineering are known. Completing an undergraduate study in Civil
Engineering with a First-class, enabled me to clear my fundamentals. My
decision to major in Construction Management was the result of my desire to
contribute something Impressive and have a direct impact of Civil Engineering
on every individual’s life.

Construction Management courses in Canada present a very lucrative prospect

for anyone who wishes to excel in this particular field. My experience as a
student, has taught me for certain that good facilities can make a difference in a
student’s life and in his learning experience. I sincerely believe that graduation
at Concordia University Canada will be an ideal step in this direction. Moreover
the program outline for Construction management course in your college has
been designed with a lot of clarity which gives an idea of how much knowledge
can be gained. I hope you will grant me the privilege of pursuing my Master of
engineering in civil engineering in your prestigious university.

You will find me to be committed and a capable student. I assure you of my

diligence in my work to prevent any disappointment. I pray and look forward to
a long and fruitful idea to Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
