any song. If it’s a performance song, we love to get your performance videos. If it’s a
reading song, we love to get video of your students working on interactive activities
or with manipuliatives from the site. For each video that we can use online, we give
the teacher a month’s free subsciption.

Search Engine
Use the search engine to search for a song or listening selection by composer, theme, concept or key word. You
can also search for a specific rhythm or tone set. We continue to edit and refine this tool and it is an incredibly
useful tool!
My List
There is a checkbox to the right of each song. If you check
a song, it will be added to “My List.” This is another way
to quickly select songs that you may want to use with many
classes.

Song Movies: Notation, Lyrics, Kids Demo, Note Highlights

Select from the menu at the top if you want the Notation, Lyrics, Kids Demo, or Note Highlights video.

Usually for K-1 I use the lyrics video or note highlights for teaching a song for the children.
Notation is given so teachers can read the melody. Usually for gr. 2 and up, I’ll use notation videos for children as I
want my students to become musically literate musicians.

Concept Slides
Concept Slides illustrate the concepts that
the song can be used to teach. If you have
the Musicplay Digital Resources, the concept
slides were in the PowerPoints. The last
slide of the concept slides will be the Orff
arrangement - the Orff arrangement is also
included in “Arrangements. “ Poems that are
included in the Musicplay Teacher’s Guides are
illustrated after the song concepts, although
recent changes to programming will soon
allow poems that are numbered (ex. 23a) in the guide to be inserted in the song list. Concept Movies are in
development.

If you are looking for a worksheet or song activity+worksheet to work on a specific concept, use the search engine.
Search for “dynamics” or “loud quiet” and then choose a song/activity near the grade level that you are working
with.
The Units section has an excellent lesson and worksheets on The Staff. Additional lessons/worksheets are in de-
velopment for this section. The staff worksheets are themed - if you are teaching the staff in the fall, use the fall
themed worksheets. If you’re teaching or reviewing this around Valentine’s Day, you can use those themed work-
sheets. Page 5
Lesson planning
If a teacher has the Musicplay teacher’s guides, song lists, year plans, month
outlines and weekly lesson suggestions are given in these guides.
Musicplay provides a menu of choices:
1. choose the songs from the week that you want to teach
2. choose from the activities that are suggested for the songs
3. choose from listening selections, solfa practice and rhythm
reading practice It’s not expected that a teacher will teach every song and
activity in the program.
The teacher’s binders include performance/accompaniment CDs. We
are working to make acc. tracks downloadable from Musicplayonline.
However, the vocal tracks and videos will not be downloadable, as CDs and
Digital Resources are available in hard copy format.

Note Name Memory is a game with two levels to practice treble clef note names.
Level 1 is just matching the note to the letter. In Level 2, you play it as a memory game.
Beat or Rhythm: This is a game to help teach your students to distinguish between beat
and rhythm. Listen to the drum play. If it plays the rhythm of the song, click rhythm. If
it plays the beat, click beat.
Up & Down: Listen to the sound the piano plays. If it’s going up, click up. If it’s going
down, click down. If you get the answer right, the man will climb the ladder. If you get
all 10 answers right, he’ll pick the apple --- then fall!
Beat or No Beat: In this game you’ll hear a musical selection. 10 questions assess if
students can tell if music has a steady beat.
Major & Minor: There are two levels to this game. Level 1 - you’ll hear a chord played on
a keyboard. Click if it’s major or minor. If correct, the sun will come out and you’ll melt
part of the snowman. If you get all the answers correct, he’ll melt away. Level 2 - you’ll
hear an orchestral excerpt and tell if it’s major or minor.
Smooth & Separated: You will hear a musical example and tell if it’s smooth or
separated. If you’re correct another frog lands on the dock. If you need to hear the
sound again, click and hold the middle button. There are 10 questions.
Loud and Quiet: You will hear a musical example and tell if it’s loud or quiet. If you’re
correct, the bubble will get bigger. Hint for teacher: Turn the volume on your sound up
so it’s easier to hear the contrast between loud and quiet.
Rhythm Racing: You will hear a rhythm played. If the rhythm played is the same as the
rhythm that you see on the flashcard, click YES. If it’s different, click NO. If your answer
is correct, your race car will pull ahead. (If it’s wrong, the brakes squeal) There are five
levels of play.
High or Low: You will hear a musical example and tell if it is high or low. If your answer
is correct, you will get a balloon. If you get all the answers correct, the man will float
away.
Fast or Slow: You will hear a musical example and tell if it’s fast or slow. If you get all the
answers right, the man will fall in the dunk tank.
Students can use the student login on devices and play the games! Page 29
