The original radio/cassette unit stopped working. My requirements for a replacement unit was to have
a good sound, the unit fit in the existing cutouts for the face & tuning posts, USB port that could be
hidden but easily accessible and finally have a natural look that suited the interior of the car. After
looking at a number of units within a price range that I was willing to spend I was not able to find one
that suited the car or my tastes. Lucky for me my beautiful wife happen to find www.retrosoundusa.com
on the web. It was clear the Model One would easily satisfy my requirements.
There was a lot of open space behind the dashboard to mount the radio and the dimensions of the
Model One face would allow me to use the original mounting bracket (see step 8 below) with the Model
One Infinimount Brackets that required a simple alteration (see step 6) to the original mounting bracket.
Prep Work
1. Take your time installing this radio RetroSound has done a good job designing the hardware for
easy custom fit. For me preparation was key in making the installation look good.
2. Modify the original mounting bracket by cutting out the center for the dimensions of the Model
One faceplate with the chrome bezel (see step 8 below).
3. Modify the Infinimount Brackets to allow the Infinimount shafts to be aligned to the dashboard
cutouts for the existing radio (see step 6).
4. Find the constant power source. Once again this was a simple solution since the existing radio
wire harness connector ports had a connector that had two wires in which the burnt orange
wire was the constant.
5. Purchased Scosche Car Stereo Wiring Connector '73 ‐ '91 General Motor (Model: GM01) from
Walmart around $12 bucks. www.schoche.com (800.621.3695 ext: 3).This connector worked
perfectly. The '83 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham has 3 wire harnesses (Black, White, and Blue)
and a small connector with two wires. The burnt orange wire is the constant I disconnected the
battery, cut the wire, and used that wire for the constant.
Installation
** You will notice the images will show the Model One for the steps to remove the current unit. This is
because I accidently overwrote the picture of the original radio when viewed pretend it is the original.
1. Disconnect the battery cables.
2. Remove the two adjustable air vents from the dashboard (see Remove Air Vents image #1 below).
Use a tool with flat service to remove left vent by sliding plastic hinge away from support hole and
lightly pull vent forward to keep the hinge from hole. While holding vent with a finger then pull
plastic hinge away from hole other side and lightly pull forward. Rotate vent upward to remove vent
from enclosure (see Remove Air Vents image #2 below).
Repeat for right vent.
1
Remove air vents image #1 – pull plastic retainer inward to allow
disconnection
Remove air vents image #2 – Rotate vent upward to pull vent out of housing.
2
3. Remove screw above each vent hole.
4. Remove screw on lower left side.
5. Remove screw on lower right side.
3
6. Modified both Infinimounts brackets to cut the point (see RetroSound documentation image below
for example) using a dremel to allow the Infinimount shafts to align correctly in the mount (See step
8 to for my installation).
4
7. Install the remote mountable USB / SD card reader
7.1. I installed the remote mountable USB / SD card reader in my glove box. This required taking out
the shell of the glove box held by three screws
7.2. Drilled two screw holes for the remote mountable USD /SD Card reader and one oversized hole
to allow the connector of the cable for the remote mountable USD /SD Card reader to pass
through the glove box to the area of the radio.
5
7.3. Cut a piece of 3/8” thick white plastic molding to be the base for the remote mountable USD /SD
Card reader to create a raised base for the remote mountable USD /SD Card reader. This
allowed clearance for easy access for the USB thumb drive (I wrapped the plastic molding with
black electrical tape to stay with the black motif of the glove box interior color).
7.4. Installed the remote mountable USD /SD Card reader using bolts with nuts to securely mount
the unit. Ran the cables to the through the glove box to connect to the radio.
6
8. Remove mounting bracket, cut out center of mount, connected wires of the harness for the vehicle
to the Scosche Car Stereo Wiring Connector the carinstall radio, and remount support.

9. Use the steps above to reinstall the dashboard cover and vents, reconnect the battery cables.
10. I used the radio knobs from RetroSound the full chrome knobs looked better than the factory
knobs with the wood grain inlay on the face of the knobs.
