How to install AirWatch MDM on an Android

Purpose
 The AirWatch system allows Mobile Device Management (email, contacts & calendar) access to the S&L system 
on a mobile device. 
 It currently allows limited access to some S&L resources, such as People Finder. 
 There are several models & versions of Androids out there so this document will show a standard setup. Some 
things may appear differently on your device. 
 

Prerequisites
 All devices must be pre‐approved & your account must be enabled by IS 
 The device must have: 
o Android OS version 4.1 or higher 
o Google Play Store account must be setup on the device 
 Verify that the date and time are set correctly  
 Verify that you have Internet Access (either via data plan or Wifi access) 

Detailed Procedure
1. Open the web browser & navigate to http://awagent.com  
2. Tap the Download AirWatch MDM Agent from the Google Play Store button  (fig. a)
3. Choose to download from Play Store and then tap Just Once  (fig. b)
4. Tap Install to download the AirWatch app  (fig. c)
5. Tap Accept to allow AirWatch access to run then tap Open  (fig. d)
6. Tap Email Address as Authentication Method  (fig. e)
7. Enter your email address & tap Continue  (fig. f)
8. Enter your Username (your initials) and network password (your normal login password)   (fig. g)
9. Tap the Accept button to accept the Terms of Use  (fig. h)
10. On the Part 2: Secure screen, tap Get Started  (fig. i)
11. On the Grant Permissions to AirWatch screen, tap Continue  (fig. j)
12. On the Activate Device Admin screen, tap Activate  (fig. k)
13. On the Allow non‐Play Store Apps screen, tap Device Settings  (fig. l)
14. On the Settings‐ Security screen, check the Unknown Sources button  (fig. m)
15. Tap OK on the Unknown Sources screen  (fig. n)
16. Tap the Droid’s Back key,         usually on the bottom on the screen
17. On the Install Enterprise Service screen, tap Continue  (fig. o)
18. If this is a Samsung Device, on the AirWatch Samsung screen, tap Next twice, then Install  (fig. p)
19. On the Activate Device Admin screen, tap Activate  (fig. k)
20. If you have not set a passcode, tap Device Settings and do so now (recommend 4 digit PIN)  (fig. q)
21. On the Part 3: Configure screen, tap Continue  (fig. r)

22. On the Set up your email screen, tap Continue  (fig. s)

23. You will then be prompted to enter & confirm your network password, tap OK  (fig. t)
24. On the Install Applications screen, tap Play Store, to install the AirWatch Secure Browser app  (fig. u)
25. Tap Install, then Accept to allow install of AirWatch Browser, then tap the Back key         again  (fig. v)
26. This brings you back to the Install Applications screen, tap Continue  (fig. u)
27. That completes the initial configuration, tap Exit  (fig. w)
28. You will then see the My Device page showing you status of AirWatch, press the Home button  (fig. x)
29. Open your Email application & you will be prompted to accept the message, tap OK  (fig. y)
30. You will see the Validate account settings screen, then your email will open up  (fig. z)
31. You have several new apps, AirWatch, AirWatch Browser, etc.  (fig. aa)
32. You now have access to a mobile version of the People Finder to lookup firm user’s phone numbers, by:
o Opening the AirWatch Browser icon from your Apps or Home screen, or
o Opening the People Finder icon from the Home Screen. The first time you open it, you will 
need to choose AirWatch Browser and tap Always   (similar to fig. b)
33. Enter initials, tap Go! & you will get similar results to the Infonet’s People Finder page  (fig. bb)
 
 
The setup is now complete & your smartphone is configured for use. We recommend checking your Email, 
Calendar & Contact apps to verify that everything is syncing. It may take some time to fully populate, depending on 
your network connection.  
At any time if your device has not connected to the S&L system (i.e. to check for email) for more than five days, 
you will be sent a warning email. Two days after that, if no network connection is made, all corporate data (email, 
contacts, etc.) will be automatically removed from your device. This prevents data loss in the case of a lost or stolen 
device. If wiped, these instructions can be repeated to reconnect your account on the device.
