Interview questions (developmental psychology) John Cella

Child

1. Has your child grown in height in the past year? If so, how much?

Yes, about two inches.

2. Has there been an increase in specific sizes such as shoe size in the past year? If so, what was the
change?

Yes, size four shoe to size six.

3. How well has your child been able interact with other children socially?

She’s very outgoing and very talkative.

4. How well has your child been able to communicate in a good grammatical fashion?

She’s age appropriate for her grammar efficiency. Decent but not great.

5. How well has your child been performing in school?

Pretty well. Very verbal and hard-working.

6. Does your child struggle in a specific category such as reading or mathematics? If so, what part of it is
difficult for them?

She has a difficulty in mathematics. Word problems are the most difficult.

7. Does your child’s mood tend to change easily?

Her mood changes very easily when she’s happy, then she can be very irritated with somebody.

8. Does your child have frequent temper tantrums or emotional breakdowns?

Not frequent but occasionally has them.

9. How much television/internet do you allow your child to have a day?

Half hour on the weekdays. Then two hours on the weekends.

10. How do you punish your child after they have behaved poorly?

She has to go to bed earlier (she hates that). Technology is taken away.

Adolescence

1. Have you grown in height in the past year? If so, how much?

A lot actually. He was 5’4” now he’s 5’6” or 5’7”.

2. Has there been an increase in specific sizes such as shoe size, hat size or glove size in the past year? If
so, what was the change?
He was size 7 shoes now he’s size 9.

3. Have you been experiencing an increase in body hair?

A little pit hair and facial hair, but no chest hair.

4. Do you have a difficult time interacting with other kids your age?

No, he interacts fine with other kids, but gets red when he presents in class.

5. Does your mood tend to switch from one extreme to the next?

Sometimes, only happened once or twice when he start feeling happy then he’s steaming mad.

6. Do you tend to get upset easily at certain things?

Not at a lot, but when his parents talk about certain things it upsets him.

7. Have you confirmed what your sexuality is?

Yes, he is straight.

8. Do you now, or have you ever had a significant other?

He doesn’t, and he’s not looking to get one now but later in high school.

9. Do you have a difficult time reading in school?

He doesn’t like reading, but has no problem doing it.

10. How do you study the days before a big exam?

He uses flashcards, but he usually tries to memorize it and has his parent quiz him.

Middle Adult

1. Have you experienced loss or shortness of breath over the last couple years? When does it happen?

When she’s stressed she loses breath.

2. Do you experience any feelings of fatigue during the day? Explain when.

She’s constantly tired during the day. Especially after lunch.

3. Do you experience pain in your muscles, bones or joints? Explain when.

No. If she’s injured yes. But never for no reason.

4. How has your communication over the years been effective? Has it improved or decreased in quality?

It has relatively improved. She’s experienced no problems with it.

5. Do have a tendency to have frequent feelings of depression or anxiety? Explain when.

Occasionally has anxiety because of work. Never depression.


6. Has your relationship with your friends and family developed or decreased in recent years? Explain.

Still has a decent social life and support system. Has not declined.

7. Has your sex drive decreased during recent years? Explain.

Yes, it has become very rare. She doesn’t have the drive she used to.

8. How has your career developed in the past year?

She has been a doing great job as her boss pointed out. No decline in career development.

9. Do you have a good relationship with your employer? Explain.

Yes, communication is very open between the two of them. It’s a good partnership.

10. How would you compare your career now versus your first day on the job?

She’s gotten to know the community, which makes her relationships grow with other faculty.

Older adult

1. Have you decreased in height in recent years?

Yes, he was 5’7” most of my life, last time he was at a check-up he was listed at 5’6”.

2. Have you been experiencing any loss of hearing or vision?

Hearing mostly. High frequency sounds is something he can’t hear. If there’s Background sounds I can’t
hear regular conversation.

3. Do have arthritis or experience any other sort of joint pain?

No, he’s doing well in that area. Sometimes his muscles ache but never his joints.

4. Do you have trouble remembering certain things?

Yes, it stared about ten years ago, he was 70. He would walk into a room and not remember why he
went there.

5. Has your sense of attention decreased throughout recent years?

He’s doing well in that area. As long as there is no background noise he can concentrate properly.

6. How has your living arrangements changed throughout recent years?

He likes more chairs that have arm rests for my muscles. He uses the hand rail more on stairs. He has a
shower matt in the shower now for safety reasons.

7. What do you plan on doing during your retirement?

Reading nonfiction books and articles. Crossword puzzles. Volunteer work.

8. Do you have trouble interacting with grandchildren or children of younger generations?


Not particularly. He has a good sense of communication with his grandchildren.

9. When you were younger, did you expect to be the way you are at this aged or has it been
unexpected? If it has, how so?

He didn’t think he would live this long. All of his family died younger than what he is now.

10. Are you overall happy at your age?

He is. He’s happy to share his life with his grandchildren.
