Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):

This course addresses the fundamentals of wired and wireless networking, including
architectures, protocols, and standards. It describes concepts, technology and applications of
networking as used in current and next generation wired and wireless networks. It explains
engineering aspects of network functions and designs. Issues such as mobility management,
GSM, CDMA, LTE are covered. A brief introduction to 5G will be covered. This course is more
focused on an adequate system and sub-system level understanding of the prevalent mobile
wireless networks. Introduction to emerging New-5G Radio would also be given. The focus would
be:
1. Understanding of the cellular techniques, PHY, MAC, Application Layer, Network Control
and Network Management Techniques
2. Understanding of the prevalent GSM standard based cellular networks, CDMA wireless
systems, Mobile Data Networks including 4G and 5G networks
3. Introduction to beamforming with perspective of 5G networks
4. An exposure to mobile networks through projects
