Analyzing and highlighting the important parts of Research Paper
Defining Supply Chain Management: In the Past, Present, and Future
The research paper conducts the research on Defining Supply Chain Management: In the Past,
Present, and Future, the research paper published in 2001 in the Journal of Business Logistics
has been cited over 4,900 times in the last 17 years.
The research has been conducted by Soonhong Min, Zach G. Zacharia, and Carlo D. Smith.
This research has been conducted in:
1. Yonsei University
2. Lehigh University
3. Central Washington University
The topic of the research is descriptive, that describes supply chain in the past, present, or future
that means it is an descriptive research topic and it explains, first a historical review of how the
article originated and the contributions the article made to both the theory and practice of supply
chain management (SCM). Second the research highlight the key market and technological
changes that have emerged in SCM followed by how the theory proposed in the 2001 article can
still be relevant to support SCM research and practice going forward. Third the research paper
explain they also propose ways of configuring a supply chain and partnering across companies to
serve customers in an optimal way.
As I highlight the phenomenon of this research termed as, “Supply Chain Orientation (SCO),”
which is defined as “...the recognition by an organization of the systemic, strategic implications
of the strategic and tactical activities involved in managing the various flows in supply chain,”
This research is Qualitative in nature because they conduct interviews they performed 28
interviews with executives and high ranking managers from 20 companies who were involved in
SCM practices. Their goal was to understand the prevailing views of what SCM is, how it is
being performed, as well as preconditions and expected outcomes of it.
The results they extract from their interviews conducted in research in which they defined SCM
as “the systemic, strategic coordination of the traditional business functions within a particular
company and across businesses within the supply chain, for the purposes of improving the long-
term performance of the individual companies and the supply chain as a whole.”
They have concluded that they have witnessed exciting changes both in supply chain practices
and SCM research in the past 17 years and technologies have put the supply chain management
to the next point. Supply chains are evolving as technologies, companies, end-customers, and
markets all change.
Supply Chain Resilience Research: Review, Trends and Opportunities
The purpose of this paper is to provide insights to academics and researchers on the research
developments, gaps and opportunities for future research on the topic of supply chain resilience.
The research has been conducted by
 Dr Imran Ali
 Dr Sev Nagalingam
 Associate Professor Bruce Gurd
This research has been conducted in:
 Department of Logistics and Supply Chain, Australian Institute of Business, Australia
 School of Management, University of South Australia, Australia
 School of Management, University of South Australia, Australia
The topic of the research is descriptive, that describes the review, trends and opportunities a
supply chain can have in the future, the research paper define the Firms in the supply chain face
internal and external risks from technological changes, globalization and a turbulent business
environment. , the risks faced by an individual firm not only harm its own operations but can
also negatively influence the operations of its supply chain partners.
This research is Quantitative in nature because they conduct interviews and they formulate 2
question they asked these two questions and the whole research paper based on these two
questions
Paper builds on two main research questions:
RQ1. What is the current status and trend of the literature in supply chain resilience; and
RQ2. What are the potential research gaps and opportunities for future research, specifically in
context of definitions, methodological and theoretical perspectives, barriers and enablers to
building resilience, and current research on small and medium sized enterprises?
These questions indicates that the research is quantitative in nature.
Based on the research paper we extract the conclusion that some major gaps have been identified
which form the basis for future research in the area of supply chain resilience.
 The literature failed to suggest a unified definition of supply chain resilience.
 Majority of the literature focuses on the definition of supply chain resilience. Our
findings show that the trend of research is now shifted from definition to the enablers of
resilience.
 Most of the previous studies build on either conceptual or qualitative research and
therefore lack broader perspectives of the findings. As such, we instigate the need for
large-scale 13 survey-based research to generalise the findings and address the challenges
of supply chain resilience more effectively and broadly.
Supply Chain Management: An International Journal
This paper aims to review logistics and supply chain management topics where theories have
been applied to better understand the supply chain management (SCM) discipline identity. The
purpose is threefold: to identify research topics in logistics and supply chain management where
one or more theories have been examined; provide commentary on the theories that have been
applied to the various logistics and SCM research topics and to provide reference material and
direction for future research.
The research has been conducted by
 David Swanson
 Lakshmi Goel and Kristoffer Francisco
 James Stock
The topic of the research is descriptive, that describes the analysis of supply chain management
the prominent topics of SCM research are identified, which are used to help define the identity of
the discipline. Second, this study provides an analysis of how SCM topics have evolved over
time. Third this research analyzes how these topics are treated in the literature in terms of the
most common research methods used and the nature of contributions made. Fourth, the topics are
analyzed by the journal where they were published.

This research is Qualitative in nature they conduct surveys with conceptual approaches on supply
chain management nature of supply chain relationships and collaboration, issues such as personal
relationships among supply chain members and inter- and intra-organizational coordination.

Research paper also use case studies, Demand Management and Forecasting and Risk
Management research are dominated by Case Study research.

In conclusion the paper examined the growth rates of the topics and categorized them into groups
of reasonably similar growth rates to help discuss their future impacts.

 Rapidly growing topics, have increased from 250 to 800percent;

 Growing topics, have increased from 60 to 139 per cent;
 Topics that were relatively steady, have increased from 0to50 percent and
 Declining topics
Growing topics for theory-based research in the future include Sustainability, Supply Chain
Agility and Resilience, Reverse Logistics, Performance Measurement and Metrics, Product and
Process Innovation and Human Resource Development.

The growing topics for theory-based research are Relationships and Collaboration, Supply Chain
Integration, Strategy, Quality, Risk Management, Inventory and Customer Service Strategy.
The relatively flat topics are Network Analysis, Humanitarian Operations, Information
Technology, Transportation and Logistics, Manufacturing and Contracts and Coordination.
Service supply chain management: A behavioral operations perspective
The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the evolution of service supply chain
management from a behavioral operations perspective, pointing out future research directions for
scholars.

The research has been conducted by

 Weihua Liu, Di Wang, Shangsong Long and Xinran Shen Tianjin University, Tianjin,
China, and
 Victor Shi Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University,
Waterloo, Canada

The topic of the research is explanatory and it provide explanation on the service supply chain
link, that primarily focuses on service supply and service co-ordination management, and less on
service demand and integration management. In terms of the behavioral factor’s perspective,
most focus on classic behavior factors, with less attention paid to emerging behavior factors.

The research is quantitative of nature because it asked two questions that are:

 RQ1. Consider the heterogeneity and customer engagement of service supply chain, will
customers show different fairness concerns due to the service quality?
 RQ2. In the context of information, is there any new technology that can help solve the
impact of fairness concern?

This study identifies threes significant features of SSCM from the perspective of behavioral
operations: namely, the abundance research issues, extensive research backgrounds and multiple
methods and greater attention to the combination of academic research and practice. This study
has also identified three challenges: many characteristics of service are difficult to quantify in
modifying the analytical model; service is not standardized and there are significant industrial
differences; and systematic, comprehensive and multidisciplinary research are urgently needed.

In a conclusion this study finds that different behavior factors receive varying degrees of
attention, with strategic behaviors receiving the most attention and forecast bias receiving the
least. In addition, existing research has tended to focus more on service supply management and
co-ordination management and less on service demand and integration management.
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AND OPERATIONAL
PERFORMANCE OF FAIR PRICE SHOPS IN INDIA

The research has been conducted by

 Anil Kumar,
 G.S. Kushwaha

The paper aims to determine the relationship between different supply chain management
practices and operational performance of the fair price shops in India. The authors propose the
theoretical framework and empirically test the model. The study aims to expand the knowledge
structure of supply chain management field.

The topic of the research is exploratory cum descriptive study . The authors randomly selected
200 Fair price shops from a list available on the government website and identified the key
persons from each shop as the respondent to get questionnaire filled. The data were collected
using structured questionnaire. Total 200 questionnaires were given to MBA students.

The research is Quantitative in nature because they did the research by filling up the
questionnaire they collect the data from those fair price shops dealers who qualify the screening
questions and situated in Bhopal Madhya Pradesh (India) in the month of March – April’ 2017.
Finally, 87 useful questionnaires were obtained, with a response rate of 43.5%.

In the result this study provides that three dimensions of SCM practices have a significant and
positive relationship with the operational performance. The paper provides empirical insights
about how change is brought about operational performance of the fair price shops. It suggests
that supply chain management practices positively & significantly associated with the
performance of fair price shops.

In a conclusion This paper emphasizes the importance of supply chain management practices on
the day to day operations of the fair price shops and provides an insight that these practices if
employed properly they will give an added advantage.
