COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course explains the basic principles of statistical methods and some simple analysis methods that can
be applied to various fields of applied business and economics. The topics covered in this course are
descriptive statistics, probability, principles of estimation and hypothesis testing, estimation and hypothesis
testing the mean and proportion of the population, and estimation and testing hypotheses about the
difference between the mean and the proportions of two populations.

Understand basic statistical theory, such as understanding population, sample, parameter, probability,
probability distribution, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics
Be able to apply the basic theory of simple statistics, especially in business
Be able to apply the fundamentals of statistical theory to solve cases / issues in the field of business (C-LO2)

SUPORTING MEDIA
The supporting media used to enhance the learning activities for this course includes:
1. Slide Projector
2. Whiteboards Set
TUTORIAL
To help students to be successful in this course, every week all students are required to attend tutorial
classes. Every week the tutor will test students with quizes on materials that hasl already been covered in
the lectures and discuss the answer of the quizes. Every quizes will be marked. Please do not miss the
tutorial as you will get zero value from the quiz and there will be no follow-up quiz
GROUP PROJECT
6
Purpose :
a. To give students opportunity to work as a team (4-5 students/team) and to apply statistical methods which have been learned in class to real
life situations.
b. To let students become familiar with basic statistical software such as Microsoft Excel/MINITAB/R software
Due Dates :
The project paper and presentation is due on Session 15
The proposed topic is due no later than Session 7 (before Midterm Exam)
Methods :
The project will implement materials given troughout the course which emphasises descriptive statistics, central tendancy and varaince measures,
confidence intervals, and the five-step procedure of One or Two-Sample Test Hypothesis to decide whether a certain statement about a population
parameter should be accepted or rejected. Before implementing these procedures, the following process should be taken:
1. Decide the topic and start finding historical data of a certain population parameter.
2. Take a sample from the population. Explain what kind of sampling methods will be used.
7
3. Make a description on your data and highlight the central tendancy and variance of the data and analyze your results
5. Follow the five-step procedure for testing a hypothesis (Chapter 10). Do not forget to explain the necessary assumptions.
6. Compare the manual calculations which have been done in the process menitioned above by using statistical software such as Microsoft
Excel/MINITAB/R Software
Format :
1. A type-written report (no more than 10 pages total) plus appendixes for data set and Microsoft Excel or MINITAB output
8
If the group does not submitt the paper whithin the given deadline the group will recive a sanction/cut off of 15% from the total final
project score.
If the student is absent durring the final project presentation without any information , the student will not recive an individual score
given in the question and answer session of the final project presentation.
OUTLINE COURSE
It is extremely important to keep up in this class. The course moves very quickly. Students should attempt
as many of the problems (exercises) at the end of each chapter as possible. At least one problem
representative of each topic covered in the course should be attempted. Suggested problems would
include those for which solutions are available in the back of your textbook. Problem formulation and
solving are an important aspect of learning statistics. If you are having trouble with any of the topics, talk to
the faculty immediately.

The grading policy to calculate the final total score for this course is based on the criteria and weight given
bellow:

2. Final Exam : 30%
3. Quiz : 15%
5. Tutorial: 10%
Note : Mid Term and Final Exams should be anounced maximum 2 (two) weeks after the last of exam week .
If the students has a class and tutorial attendence less than 80%, there will be a sanction/cut off of 30% from the final total
score
If a student is sick durring mid term/final exams, they must hand in a letter of statement from a hospital/doctor recommending that the
student needs a bed rest and including the information of disease/ illness maximum 3 days after the exam. Or If a student has
suffered a loss of there main family (parents, siblings, grandparents) durring mid term/final exams, they must hand in a letter of
notification maximum 3 days after the exam. In these cases no sanctions will be given
If a student is absent durring mid term/final exams without any information stated above, the student will recive a sanction/cut off of
20% from the total final or mid term exams.
The final grade will be calculated based on the distribution/absolute of the class’s final total score (see Table below)
16

Grade Score Over Normal Bellow Absolute
A 4 10-20% 5-15% 0-10% ≥80.0
AB 3.5 25-30% 20-25% 10-20% 75.0 - 79.9
B 3 25-30% 20-30% 20-30% 70.0 - 74.9

D 1 0% 0-5% 5-10% 40.0 - 49.9
E 0 0% 0% 0-5% <40.0
Distribution
The decission of final grading policy based on distributions or absolute score will be discussed in an internal program meeting and be
announced to students one week prior to the final grading announcment
17
Final Grade should be uploaded to the learning management system (lms: https://s1.prasetiyamulya.ac.id/lms) maximum three weeks
after the last day of final exam week and be reviewed and finalized by an internal program commitee maximum in two weeks. The
format of the form to upload can be seen in the appendencies below.
Final Grades that have not been submitted within the terms mentioned above will automatically be given a maximum grade C and
can’t be changed without any further authorization from the internal program commitee.
Any form of student’s unsatisfaction towards the final grading can be deliverd by email to the faculty member in charge with
acknowledgments to the internal program commitee.
STUDENT’S EVALUATION
Students have an obligation to fill in an evaluation survey before the mid term and final exam. This
evaluation survey will be used for evaluation of quality assurance of class progress and deliveries.
Students have to fill in a evaluation survey provided in the learning management system (lms:
https://s1.prasetiyamulya.ac.id/lms/fm/index.php?mnu=evaluasi# ) before the mid term and final exam
Example of the student’s evaluation survey sheet can be seen in the appendencies
If the student doesn’t fill in the evaluation they will not be allowed to have access to mid term and final exam scores
