Opening (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities)

The teacher will introduce herself and greet the students and ask them about the weather and how are they doing today

Introducing the Sound (Describe what the teacher and student will do)
15 min

Teacher:
Small

 Show the students flashcards of pictures from the song of sounds to know if they can say the letter
sounds
Time:

 Practice the letter sounds with them


 Ask them about the letter and if they know how to say the sound of the letter
 Ask them what words starts with the letter S while showing them the flashcards
Ss:
 say ‘sssss together
 try to make the ‘ssss’ sound with the teacher
 practice the S sound with the teacher if they arnt familiar with it .
 answer the teachers questions .
 repeat the sounds and look at what their mouths are doing.
Phonemic Awareness (Describe what the teacher and student will do)

T:
 explains the she will say some words and that some of them will begin with the “ssss” sound and some will not.
 Ask the students if any of their names start with the S letter.
 Write the letter S on the board .
 says the words slowly and emphasise on the s letter .
 emphasizes the initial sound in those words with the s sound in the beginning.

Ss:
 listen to the teacher attentively and follow instructions
 raise their hands when they hear the sound /s/ in the initial position. Some children have difficulties hearing i t. Some
children raise their arms when the /s/ sound is heard at the beginning of the word.
 Some children are repeating the word and exaggerating the initial sound.
 children open their eyes.

Introducing Phonics & Letter Knowledge (Describe what the teacher and student will do)

T:
 explains that she is going to show the children how to draw a picture of the /s/ sound.
 follows 3 handwriting guidelines on the whiteboard and says:
1. start on the top
2. draw a line downwards and inwards
3. then continue outwards

as she draws the letter that is associated with the sound /sss/.
 repeats this and asks the children to copy her movements in the air with their fingers.
 asks a child to come and try to draw the /ssss/ sound. She asks the children to tell her how to do this using the instructions
1-3 above.
 repeats this with another 3 to 5 children.

Ss:
 The children sit and listen attentively.
 repeat the teacher’s directions and trace the sound /ssss/ in the air with their fingers.
 draws the letter on the board one b y one whilst the other children direct them

Practicing Phonics & Letter Knowledge (Describe what the teacher and student will do)

T:
 tells the children that they will all practice writing the sound /ssss/ today.
 selects a group of children to move to the writing table and directs the rest of the children to the other activities in other
centres.
 sits with the children and gets them to trace the sound /ssss/ explicitly following the directions 1 -3 above.
 encourages the children to say the sound /ssss/ while they have write it.
 asks the children to identify the objects on the worksheet that begin with the sound /sssss/ and to color it.

Ss:
 listen attentively and move out into the learning centres.
 trace the sound /ssss/ whilst saying the directions 1-3.
 Colour the objects that starts with the letter sssss
 identify the object and listen for the initial sound /ssssss/. Where they hear it the write it underneath the picture.

Independent Experience (small group activity 1)


5 or more students will cut the snake eyes and tongue to place it in the letter S and make a snake creativitly

Independent Experience(small group activity 2)

The students will make the letter S or the letter T with playdough and using clay

Independent Experience(small group activity 3)

Students will have worksheets that they have to colour the objects that starts with the letter s and write the letter S the studnts will
also draw something that starts with the letter S themselves

Closing

The teacher will evaluate the students understanding of the lesson by checking on their activities and work

The teacher will praise the students and give them stickers when they finished their work correctly
