Objectives

• Transmit to different types of students all my knowledge about English.

• Use teaching materials, strategies and methods to teach English in

schools and institutes.

• To continue studying after graduating in English, I want to take a

specialization and then a master's degree.

Summary about my English learning

I began to study English when I was nineteen years old in an institute, I

didn´t like English but the teacher said to me that I had great abilities to
learn a second language. The institute called English world, it was located
in Acacias Meta. I studied there for two years all weekends.

Then, I went to study to other institute because English World did not give
certificates and I also studied all weekends in Cede Llanos for one year and
six months and in that institute, I graduated in a level b2.

The teacher who teaches me in Cede Llanos invited me to study in the

UNAD because he wanted that I taught English too. So when I was twenty
three years old, I went to enroll at the UNAD. Since a few years I teach
English to my little sister and this makes me proud because she always
gets the first place in her school.

THEACHING PORTFOLIO 2016

a. Summary of your major learning accomplishments in this course

with selected examples that substantiate your commentary.

Learning accomplishments:

 I learned different strategies to create a teaching portfolio since its basic

parts to a complex teaching portfolio.

E.g. A teaching portfolio contains different teaching artifacts and written

documents. But it also has to take teacher´s explanations of the goals,
contents, and meaning as a portfolio.

 I clarified some doubts about a teaching journal and lesson plan. In my

opinion, those strategies were lost and they were not necessary to
implement.

E.g. the importance of developing a teaching journal and a lesson plan is to

identify the objectives and ensure that the activities that go in their class
are providing the students a sufficient learning.

 I understood the importance of a teaching journal and the advantages

that a teacher obtains to create one.

E.g. the teacher Wilson Hamon did not create a teaching journal and I
noticed that sometimes he had some doubts about his activities´ objectives
above presented in the activity four.

 I could see that so a teacher has a great experience as a teacher, in

each lesson can appear different events that cause some problems.

E.g. the teacher did not use new material for students on the subject and
the students tried to disorganize their selves and not pay attention wasting
time to acquire new knowledge.

 Finally, I understood the benefits and purposes to create a teaching

portfolio.
6
THEACHING PORTFOLIO 2016

E.g. A teaching portfolio demonstrates the teacher´s approaches to his

work highlighting thinking, creativity, resourcefulness and effectiveness. It
also serves as a resource of review and reflection.

b. Reflection on how your observation tasks have influenced your

teaching learning.

My observation tasks helped me find answers to different questions about

how does a teacher start a lesson? Or what kind of topic can I teach?
Watching a colleague was interesting and this motivated me to study even
harder to achieve my goals. My observation task also showed me the
responsibility that a teacher has to apply in his work, because teaching is
easy, but educating to form with excellent bases is very different. As a
future teacher I have noticed the importance of this learning strategy,
helping me to see the complex areas that include teaching a second
language.

I understood that peer observation has many benefits in teaching English;

this strategy provides the opportunity to provide an objective view. And it
helps to show information that the teacher cannot recognize. For this
reason, I will always consider as a benefit the supervision of a colleague to
improve my lessons. This strategy also gave me the opportunity to take
advantage of my time and contact some teachers and visit them in their
classes to begin to organize my ideas about a class, to take into account
the behavior of students, the different environments which the lessons are
exposed, and to have the opportunity to develop self-awareness of my own
teaching.

c. Some aspects that you have learnt about the observation process
that you can account for in future lesson planning and that can
make an impact on student learning.

THEACHING PORTFOLIO 2016

After to live the last experience about the teaching English with a lesson
plan. I am going to consider important the time for each stage of the
lesson, from this first stage the warm-up is fundamental to involucrate the
student to the English class; I remember that all the students showed
interest and had questions about the class; here a teacher begins to
evidence different behaviors from the students. So, this is the first step to
take in mind. In summary the teacher has to analyze the first attitudes from
the students to the topic. For the second stage the teacher must have clear
the material to use in the explanation of the topic. Each stage has to take
its time and a second or third plan that helps to control the lesson if it’s
necessary.

In my personal opinion, I consider that good materials for the teaching are
the songs, when a teacher learns a song to all his students; he can use it

As a material to begin the classes because the song will be recognize in

few time. And other strategy is the field work; the teacher can use short
plays in the garden as guess my word, the teacher shows a word to the
students and one cannot see the word and his classmates help to guess it,
giving him some tracks.

Another aspect to account is the interaction between all the members of

the class as teacher-students and students-students. The teacher never
leaves the activity and allows to the students realize all the activity without
his help.

d. Reflection on your professional development activity and any

future developments you would like to undertake, taking into
account indicators for your teaching activities and their impact
and effectiveness.

As a future teacher, I am very motivated to finish my career as soon as

possible, because I want to begin to transmit my knowledge with a clear

8

objective, and this one is to get better the level of English in children and
youth that want to change their life style.

I have other projects in my goals, and I have clear that in all these activities
I have developed 90% of my ability and capacity to obtain the best results.
But the most important thing is that while I go forward my desire is stronger.
I have had the opportunity of detail some changes in my friends and family
because I share for them part of my English knowledge and they have got
good results and their works.

In conclusion in my neighborhood many people know that I am learning

English, and they look for me to develop different types of tasks. I love to
teach and they know and as long as I have time to help and teach a lesson,
this is a pleasure for me. I can say that many children in my neighborhood
are enrolled in different institutes to learn English.
