Assignment #1 – Body Awareness

1. What is Physical Education?

-An educational course related to the physique of the human body

-Instruction in the development and care of the body ranging from

simple calisthenic exercises to a course of study providing training in
hygiene, gymnastics, and the performance and management of
athletic games

2. What are the objectives of Physical Education?

a. PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Through the carefully selected physical an individual who participates
actively will develop and maintain good health and a high level of
physical fitness. The acquisitron of physical skills can motivate an
individual to participate, further in physical activities hence his growth
and development will be enhance.
b. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Participation in the physical education activities provides opportunities
for the development of desirable social traits needed for adjustment to
the social life in general. Some worth while traits are:

for self-expression and emotional mastery. example of traits are:
-self confidence
-self control
-self- reliance

-courage
-determination
d. MENTAL DEVELOPMENT
Through participation in physical education activities the individual
develops his mental capacities as he learns the mechanical principles
underlying movement, as he acquired knowledge and understanding
of rules and strategies of games and sports, and as he discovers ways
of improving his movements in gymnastics and dance.

3. What is Physical Fitness?

-General state of health and well-being and, more specifically, the

ability to perform aspects of sports or occupations

4. What are the components of Physical Fitness?

a. Cardiovascular/Respiratory Endurance - Ability of

body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen

b. Stamina -The ability of body systems to process,

deliver, store, and utilize energy

c. Strength -The ability of a muscular unit, or combination

of muscular units, to apply force

d. Flexibility -The ability to maximize the range of motion

at a given joint

e. Power -The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of

muscular units, to apply maximum force in minimum time

f. Speed - The ability to minimize the time cycle of a

repeated movement
g. Coordination - The ability to combine several distinct
movement patterns into a singular distinct movement

h. Agility - The ability to minimize transition time from one

movement pattern to another

i. Balance - The ability to control the placement of the

body’s center of gravity in relation to its support base

j. Accuracy - The ability to control movement in a given

direction or at a given intensity

5. What is movement education?

-It is a strand of teaching or education which aims to educate
individuals to develop their motor skills through
physical movement.Movement education aims to help individuals
improve their motor skills."

6. What is quality movement?

-Quality movement is anything to do with continuous improvement.

7. What are the qualities of movement?

a. Percussive – movement that stops and starts like the

sound of a drum

b. Sustained – movement that keeps on moving and is

smooth like silk

c. Swinging – movement that uses gravity

d. Vibratory – movement that shakes

e. Suspending – movement that holds its balance

f. Collapsing – movement that falls to the earth

8. What is body awareness?
- Body awareness is about understanding where our bodies are
in space, and where and how we move. It involves a combination
of the vestibular, tactile, and proprioceptive sensory systems.

9. What are the 4 divisions or parts of the body?

-The musculoskeletal system consists of the human skeleton (which

includes bones, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage) and attached
muscles. It gives the body basic structure and the ability for
movement. In addition to their structural role, the larger bones in the
body contain bone marrow, the site of production of blood cells. Also,
all bones are major storage sites for calcium and phosphate. So the
divisions of human body related to movement are bones, ligaments,
tendons, and cartilage

Assignment #2 – Body Movement

10. What is axial movement?

-A movement on the spot without going anywhere.

11. What are the preparatory movements to locomotor

movements?

Locomotor movement is when you actually move from one place to

another.

Locomotor movements are:

• Walking

• Running

• Swimming
• Flying

• Sliding

Non-locomotor movement is moving on the spot without going

anywhere.

Non-locomotor movements are:

• Twisting - the rotation of a selected body part around its long axis

• Bending - moving a joint

• Swaying - fluidly and gradually shifting the center of gravity from one
body part to another

• Stretching - moving body parts away from the center of gravity

• Turning - rotating the body along the long axis

• Swinging - rhythmical, smooth motion of a body part resembling a

pendulum

12. What is loco motor movement?

-A movement when you actually move from one place to another.

13. What are the basic movements of Physical Education or what

are the basic positions of Physical Education?

-Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) are the movement patterns that

involve different body parts. They are the foundation movements or
precursor patterns to the more specialised, complex skills used in
play, games, sports, dance, gymnastics, outdoor education and
physical recreation.
What skills are included?
