Research Proposal Topic

I have chosen the topic of corruption of the GMO industry, which has been a debated and

controversial topic for years now. In my paper and through my research I hope to answer the

question, “Is there corruption in the GMO industry?”. I want to investigate specific ways the

GMO industry is corrupt and why. I also want to know how this corruption affects the safety of

GMO foods.

My brother was diagnosed at age 3 with autism. He was not talking, had slow motor skills, and

major sensory issues. After my brother was diagnosed with autism my family visited numerous

doctors and did lots of research. Doctors suggested trying a non-GMO and organic diet. My

family desperate to help my brother tried this new diet. Soon after starting this new diet my

family noticed significant changes in my brother. He was trying to talk more, his motor skills

began to improve, and his sensory issues became less severe. Amazed by my brother’s

improvement since starting the non-GMO and organic diet my who family decided to try this

diet as well. My family has been eating a non-GMO and organic diet for years now. I want to

know why this diet has such a huge impact and why so many doctors suggested this new diet. I

also want to know why doctors thought a non-GMO diet was better than a GMO diet.

Due to my experience with GMOs I think there is significant corruption in the GMO

industry that needs to be addressed. I hope to discover what regulations there are on GMOs and

how GMOs are tested. I also hope to learn what specifically makes something GMO or non-

GMO. I also want to be able to determine the difference between non-GMO and organic. What I

do know about GMOs in that they are genetically modified organisms.

In order to make a clear argument about the corruption of the GMO industry, I need to

research both sides of the argument. First, I am going to research what types of corruption exist

in the GMO industry and the process of how GMOs are made and put on the market. I am also

going to investigate the labeling of GMO and non-GMO food products. The topics I want to

cover in my research paper is the corruption of the GMO industry, testing of GMOs, safety of

GMOs, and the labeling of GMOs.
