Love is an emotion rather than a choice
What is love? What does love have to do with marriage?
● For some societies love is not a requirement for marriage and in others it is the most
important thing
● You may subconsciously make the choice to love someone in certain instances,
however, in most cases it is a gradual feeling that builds upon itself after people spend
enough time together
● When you are young you do not make the decision to love someone, instead it just
happens; you do not make the choice to love you sibling, you just do
● You may love someone who is toxic for you and that you know you shouldn’t care for
and, yet, you still do

Money plays a vastly important role in marriage

What role does money play in marriage?
● Important in the sense that you need money to become married and that it is essential if
both of you want to be successful and travel and such
● Not necessarily “vastly” important depending on whether the couple is content not having
luxuries
● Not important compared to other factors such as similar values, companionship, physical
attraction and such
● At the same time, a marriage may be put under a lot of stress and fall apart if there is a
lack of finance and causing the couple to fight and be stressed with one another

It is likely that one maintains individuality in a relationship

What is individuality? Is it realistic to be an individual in a relationship?
● One can maintain their individuality in a healthy relationship despite also picking up traits
from the other person in the relationship
● You are supposed to help the person you are in a relationship with grow as a person and
that does not mean they have to grow INTO you, instead they should grow into a better
version of themselves
● Individuality is when a person has their own personality and special characteristics that
make them special
● It is realistic because most people get in a relationship with a person in order to
appreciate their special traits
● Even in a bad and unhealthy relationship, one cannot completely become the other
person, they will still have SOME individuality and maintain their differences
What is the most important component to a healthy relationship?
● Physical attraction
● It is important that there is at least some attraction to the other person because
otherwise they may be tempted to cheat
● Also in most cases looks are the first factor that a person considers when judging the
person in front of them
● Companionship
● If you cannot get along, how are you going to have a relationship
● Well you can have a relationship it just won’t be healthy
● My grandparents were together for years and still are, and a good majority of the time
they do NOT get along yet still decide to be together
● They might just be crazy though so not sure if that’s a good counter argument or not^
● Common goals
● You don’t necessarily need common goals, one of you could want to be a dance teacher
and the other a politician and both of you can celebrate each other's successes
● That example is in This Is Us in case you were wondering
● It is helpful though in certain cases such as whether one of you wants to have children or
one of you wants to live in the city and the other in the country
● Similar morals and values
● Without having similar morals and values such as trust and honesty a relationship could
never function
● Additionally, morals such as one of you being an atheist and the other a devout Christian
could come into conflict
● Other values such as loyalty, one may consider something to be disloyal that the other
person considers to be completely normal

A mother has the distinct role to take care of the children at home
● There are distinct roles for women in many parts of the world outside of the united states
● However, some may not even have a mother or a father and in such cases the single
parent may attend to all the roles in the household
● It should be a choice as to whether the person wants to be in that distinct role, however,
in many cases, this is the role that is played and it has worked relatively well
