Dynamic Debunking

By: Ayra Shane Villacarlos

Every time you browse through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, you may seem
to see a lot of posts from “news sites” and may contain articles that would garner your interest. The
question is, is this the something that you should believe in considering the fact that there are a lot of
“fake news” being spread everywhere? In this age of social media, we all fall short in evaluating the
sources of our news.
Instead of complaining about those “fake” news and throwing insults about how unfair and
biased the media are, readers should be more vigilant and pay more attention to where they are getting
their news information and what they are reading about.
With so many news outlets that can be easily accessed everywhere, it is very hard to distinguish
what is reliable and what is not. Most information is just a Google away, and it is very tempting to
believe whatever search result pops up that is relevant to what you are hoping to find.
Frankly speaking, emotions will win over facts any other day. That is why almost every fake news
heavily based on powerfully held emotions would eventually make people hardly believe any fact-based
news. Everyone is vulnerable to misleading information.
False news stories are often containing manipulated image or videos. Sometimes, the picture
may be authentic, but it can be taken out of context. Check the dates of when it happened. The
headlines may be poorly made and may be click baits. Fake news stories may contain words that make
no sense which are wrong or have been altered. There may also be lack of evidence which may indicate
that the news in indeed fake.
In hopes of eliminating fake news, the government through the National Bureau of
Investigation, also made an action by tracking all those who publish such news especially on social
media.
If people truly want to eliminate “fake news,” they should not perpetuate it, no matter how
tempting it may seem. The nation needs more
