Planning your essay - listening


comprehension
Before planning your essay, choose wisely the video or audio that you want to

watch or listen. Think why it is useful or important to you and proceed to listen

thoroughly, preferably several times, each time jotting down notes, words,

expressions and, very importantly, impressions. Afterwards, plan your essay

according to the following structure.

1. Heading: please write your name, class, date, and the title of your essay or of

your video/audio. Please handwrite the essay in clear and clear writing. Bad

handwriting will not be accepted.

1. Introduction: please begin your essay by stating the title of the video/audio,

the producer(s)/narrator(s), giving a brief overview of the reason(s) you chose

the video/audio, the usefulness of the video/audio for you or for your peers,

the ………. This should cover about a quarter of a page.

2. Main body: this is the most substantial part of your essay.

The first paragraph will include a brief summary of the content you have

listened/watched (questions 1, 2 or 3 - see page 1) which should cover a

paragraph, a quarter of the page.

The second and third paragraphs, which will cover two quarters of the page ,

will include a personal review including the answers to several questions

(questions 4 to 14, see page 1). Feel free to structure these two paragraphs

as you wish/ like/ feel comfortable.

3. Conclusion: Your conclusion will again include the reasons and usefulness

of the content you have watched/listened to, this time in other words, some

favourite expressions or words that you have found interesting, which will cover

another quarter of a page.

4. References: please include the web page or link where you have watched the

video or listened to the audio and other works, if necessary.

Other important issues

Unacknowledged copying of material or ideas from anyone or anywhere is

not acceptable!

All work submitted by students for assessment is accepted on the

understanding that it is the student’s own effort and not copied material.

Students will be assessed at grammar (2 points), spelling (2 points),

structure (2 points), content (2 points) and overall impression (2 points).
