The diving board can be modelled as a beam hinged at one


end and vertically supported at another point. Suppose the
density ρ, the Young’s modulus E and the Poisson’s ratio ν
of the board material are: 𝝆 = 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐤𝐠/𝐦𝟑 , E = 12 GPa, ν
= 0.3. A 70-kg diver stands at the free end (C) of the diving
board.
Find the deflection at the free end by finite element
analysis.
