Congruent Triangles Assessment Name: _____KEY_______

For questions 1 and 2, give the m
ost specific classification for the triangle based on its sides and angles.
DOK LEVEL 1 - Recall of Facts

1)  2)

Sides: _____scalene________  Sides: ______isosceles______________

Angles: ______obtuse__________  Angles: _____right__

 _______________

3) Write a congruence statement for the following triangles. DOK LEVEL 1 - Recall of Facts

  3) One possible answer:

4) C onsider the following triangles. Identify all triangles that would h
 ave to be c
 ongruent to each other. Circle
congruent figures using the same color. Explain why some triangles (if any) do not have to be congruent to
others. DOK LEVEL 2 - Separate Figures in categories. Ensure that learners should make use of
information (triangle congruence) in a context different from the one in which it was learned.

5) Consider a triangle ABC drawn below. All vertices must be placed on a dot.
DOK LEVEL 3- Strategic Thinking

a) Draw the missing vertex of triangle D EF such that triangle D
EF is congruent to triangle ABC. Explain
your choice of placement. How many such triangles can you make?
In order for the two triangles to be congruent, all three sets of sides must be congruent. Since there
are three sets of congruent sides in each triangle, all of them are congruent. Triangle DEG is a second
possible triangle DEF. Since the vertices have to be located on a dot, I was able to draw two such
triangles. If that limitation was not there, I would be able to draw two additional triangles.

b) Complete the drawing of a triangle K LM such that triangle KLM i s not congruent to triangle ABC.
Explain your choice of placement. How many such triangles can you make?
In order for the two triangles to be congruent, all three sets of sides must be congruent.Since I chose
side LD to be 3 unites instead of 4 units, the two triangles are not congruent. It is possible to make
infinitely many such triangles KLM.
