Royal Ambassadors II Corinthians 5:20-6:10

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

What is the highest job in the land? I believe the highest

position in the land is the calling of the royal ambassador. Who
is the royal ambassador? The calling of the royal ambassador
has the opportunity to change the lives of people for all
eternity. It is the calling of those who have given their lives to
God.

Scripture Text: II Corinthians 5:20 We are therefore

Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his
appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be
reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for
us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
6:1As God’s fellow workers we urge you not to receive
God’s grace in vain. 2 For he says, “In the time of my favor I
heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.”b I tell you,
now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
3
We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our
ministry will not be discredited. 4 Rather, as servants of God we
commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in
troubles, hardships and distresses; 5 in beatings, imprisonments
and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; 6 in purity,
understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in
sincere love; 7 in truthful speech and in the power of God; with
weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the
left; 8 through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report;
genuine, yet regarded as impostors; 9 known, yet regarded as
unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not
killed; 10 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many
rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything. [1]

Who and what is a royal ambassador? This is who we are:

1. This is our calling: Christ’s ambassadors are
representatives of the highest power in the land in this
world. We represent the Lord and his message to our
world. Have you answered the call of God in your
life? God wants you. Do you want God? If you have said
yes to God then have you fulfilled his calling in your life to
become his ambassador?
2. This is our message: Be reconciled to God. Invite others
to go where you have gone. That is to go to God for your
salvation. Give them God. The most effective way is to
practice what you preach. Do what you say. Words and deeds
show others that the message you want them to believe has
changed your life and it can change theirs. Consider the way
God changed the life of Saul who became Paul the apostle and
missionary.
3. This is our mission: God is making his appeal through
us. Seeking to save that which was lost. The mission of our
church is to live our lives everyday so that others can see
Christ living in us. I hope that they can see and hear that
Christ is living in us. Without the hearing of the message of
Christ and the gospel then the task of the ambassador is
incomplete. By giving them Christ we are giving the
opportunity to know God.

This is the fulfillment of the mission:

a Be reconciled to God. Remember that God made Him to
become sin for us.

b Hear the call to become his royal ambassador.

c Don’t receive God’s grace or gift in vain

d Now is the time. Be saved and reconciled to God.

e Now is the time to represent Him. Go to your world for

Christ.

f We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, but we open

the doors to God’s grace.

g We go the extra mile to make sure that we don’t offend

anyone considering the consequences of discrediting God
and His grace.

h I am willing to have things done to me for the sake of the

souls who need to hear the gospel.

i I am willing to give extra work, extra time, and effort to

make the gospel known to all my friends family and
neighbors.

Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in

“The term posthaste goes back to the time of Henry VIII.

Postmasters were given relays of horses to carry messages for
the king to important cities in England . Because some couriers
were irresponsible and wasted time in taverns and inns on the
way, a drastic law was put into effect demanding that every
dispatch carrier should "ride for his life." The king's edict meant
that anyone caught delaying his messages would be publicly
hanged. Often there was drawn upon important letters the figure
of a man suspended from a gallows. Beneath was this ominous
warning: "Haste, post, haste! Haste for thy life!" A number of
men did suffer death because of their inefficiency, but in the
19th century the practice was discontinued. However, the old
expression still remains as a reminder that the utmost speed and
urgency is required when the king's business is involved!” from

Will you become God’s royal ambassador? Will you be

reconciled to God?
