Net set up
 After the warmup have the students set up the nets
5 Minutes
 Remind the students to turn the poles and put the covers on
the bleachers
Review from yesterday
Go over the grip with the students
- Handshake grip
- Hold the paddle vertical
- The point of the V between your thumb and pointer finger
should be placed on top of the handle of the paddle

Go over forehand hits/shots with the students


- Weight should be on your front foot
- Opposite foot forward
- Turn your shoulders as you hit the ball (follow through
above your opposite shoulder)
- Watch the ball as it makes contact with the paddle
- Keep a firm wrist- less wrist action you have the more
accurate you will be
- Emphasize that when it is hit deep you have to back up
before hitting it (instead of trying to hit it close to your
body)
Practice:
20 Minutes
- With a partner students will do 10 tosses each then switch
- Once they have finished they can rally

Go over backhand with the students:


- Hold you paddle out to the side and then hit forward
- Your wrist should always remain locked when hitting
- Paddle should remain perpendicular with the ground
- Always want to hit the ball out in front of you
- If it is hit out to the side you extend your body (bend your
knees and squat, don’t learn over)
- End with your left foot (right for right handed players)

- Watch the ball hit your paddle
- Follow through in the direction of your target
Practice:
- 10 tosses to non-racket hand then switch
- Let the ball bounce before hitting it
- Rally once you are done
- Once they are finished allow them to rally

- As the ball is falling out of your hand you swing to hit it - If it lands in the kitchen
- DO NOT toss the ball up in the air or Bounce it off the court it does not count
when serving it

straight without moving it, strike the ball with the paddle

accuracy rather than power)

Serving cross court:


- Bring the students in
- Explain they are going to now serve cross court with their
partner
- Has to be cross court
- Same boundaries as before
- Has to land behind the ‘kitchen’ line
10 serves cross court from your partner
- Rally once you are you done
Kings court
Demonstrations:
- Have the students come sit in the M (tell them to put their
paddles and pickle balls down)
- Ask 4 students to come onto the middle court for a
demonstration of singles
- Move them to the kings court to explain what happens
when you win
- Have the students come to the far-right court to show what
Demonstrations happens when you lose: they will be waiting in a line to Explain that we will play games
& Explanation: play for 3 minutes
5 minutes  Explain that there will be 3 students waiting off the side of the - After 3 minutes I will

After the demonstrations have the students come sit back down and
assign them all a court to go to:

- Cannot step on the line


- Have to serve directly across in singles (not cross court)
- Cannot hit the ball in the air in the kitchen
- If the ball lands on the line it is in (except the kitchen line)
- Remind the students their court is split so if it is hit on the
other side that will be treated as if it is out

After the first game blow the whistle and have the student sit
down:
- Ask each court where they will be going based off of if they
won or lost their game
