Installation of MV7000 will generally be out of CONVERTEAM scope of responsibility. This manual
provides information, either specific to MV7000, or a reminder of usual good practices. The team in
charge of installation should have appropriate skills in standard practices for installation; this
document cannot be treated as exhaustive for installation.

3.1 RECEIPT, INSPECTION AND STORAGE

3.1.1 Receipt and Inspection

After receiving the shipment of MV7000 cubicles, the packaging material should be removed from
the drive and the contents has to be cross-checked and verified for completeness against the
shipping documents. In addition, the equipment should be inspected to check for the possibility of
any physical damage, which may have occurred during transport. If any item of equipment is found
to be missing or damaged, contact CONVERTEAM, quoting the following details:
• List of parts that are missing or damaged.
• Description of the damage for any item(s) found to be damaged.

WARNING
If storage conditions are not suitable, or in case of storage duration more
than 3 months, CONVERTEAM recommends to keep the packing closed to
ensure adequate protection against corrosion and dust.

3.1.2 Storage
If MV7000 or any part/component of MV7000 equipment is to be temporarily stored prior to
installation, then the following actions should be undertaken:
• Re-pack the drive equipment in its original packaging material. If this is not possible, the
equipment should be enclosed in plastic sheet in a proper manner to prevent the component(s)
from the exposure to dirt, dust or moisture that can affect the system or any of the components.
° °
• Store the drive equipment in a clean dry atmosphere with a temperature within –20 C to +60 C.
• If the drive is unpacked in a warm environment, condensation may occur. If condensation is
seen, the drive should not be used until its temperature has stabilized to the level of the working
environment.

3.2 SHIPPING AND HANDLING

3.2.1 Shipping

3.2.2 Handling

3.2.2.1 Lifting

WARNING
• Exercise due care and attention to ensure that equipment is not
damaged during lifting.

• Exercise due care and attention to ensure that equipment is stabilized

during handling to prevent injury to personnel.

It is recommended that MV7000 cabinet assembly is lifted by overhead crane:

1) Select the correct and appropriate slings with safety hooks and shackles to ensure a safe
lift.
2) Depending on if the drive is supplied with a base skid or a top lifting frame, either
- attach the rigging to the base skid below the drive cabinet assembly or
- attach the rigging to the lifting frame on the top of the drive cabinet assembly.
3) Adjust the rigging lengths as required to ensure that the drive is maintained in an upright
position when lifted.
4) To prevent possible buckling of the lifting frame and damage to equipment that may result
from excessive compressive forces, ensure that the maximum angle of 30° (base skid) or
45° resp. (top lifting frame) between the sling and vertical is not exceeded. Use a spreader
beam if lifting clearances require this. Refer to Figure 3-1 and Figure 3-2.
5) Lift and transport slowly. Set down with care.

Take care of minimum height for lifting

3.2.2.2 Rolling
The drive cabinet assembly will be moved to final installation position across a level surface using
roller pipes:
1) Use 50 mm or less diameter pipes, each pipe being longer than the depth of drive cabinet.
The number of pipes required for moving cabinet depends on the length of drive cabinet,
considering a 400 mm minimum gap between each pipe.
2) Move the drive cabinet assembly over the roller pipes, carefully placing the roller pipes at
400mm intervals, until the full length and weight of the assembly is supported across roller
pipes.
3) Roll the drive cabinet assembly slowly and with care to its final installation position, taking
care to steady the drive as it is moved.

3.3 MECHANICAL INSTALLATION

3.3.1 Environmental Conditions

As a standard system, MV7000 is designed for operation in the following environmental conditions:
• Ambient air temperature between 5°C and 45°C.
• Relative humidity between 5% and 95%, non-condensing.
• Site elevation less than 1000 meters.
Cooling water delivered to MV7000 shall comply with the following characteristics:
• Filtered clean water.
• Temperature between 15°C and 38°C, (possibly with derating outside of this range).
• Service pressure up to 6 bars.
For further details on environmental conditions requirements refer to the datasheet and to project
specific documents.

3.3.2 Accessibility of Drive Location

MV7000 has been tested under conditions of arcing due to an internal fault according to
IEC 62271-200:2003. MV7000 is in line with the Internal Arc Classification "IAC AFLR 20 kA 0.5 s"
of this standard.
This relates to the initial short circuit current of the supply Ik" (on the secondary side of the
MV transformer), to the permitted installation location and to the accessibility of the drive:
For single drives MV7306 and MV7308: If Ik" ≤ 20 kA, the space in front of the drive, behind and
beside is accessible for authorized personnel.
If Ik" > 20kA, (and this typically applies to all other drive types), the drive must be installed in an
enclosed electrical room. No access for personnel is permitted when the drive is energized.
If an arc occurs inside the cubicle due to a fault, then this is accompanied by a loud bang.
Depending upon feeder power, a peak sound pressure level LC,Peak up to 150 dB can occur in 5 m
distance. Therefore, the room in which the MV7000 is located must be marked as noisy area.
When staying in this room, ear protection must be worn.

3.3.3 Clearances and Mounting Distances

MV7000 is a water-cooled converter. However, a minor part of the losses is removed by airflow
ventilation. The airflow path through MV7000 is shown in Figure 3-4.
To guarantee airflow efficiency, sufficient clearance is required both in front of and above the
assembly. This clearance will facilitate the removal of the fan in case of maintenance. Care should
also be taken to ensure the air that exhausts on the top and towards the front of the drive, is not
obstructed by any objects in its path.
MV7000 is designed for front access to all internal modules and components. As such, no access
is required to the rear of the assembly for servicing. Thus, the rear side of the drive may be
positioned against a wall, or it can be arranged in a back-to-back configuration with another
electrical panel.
Clearance in front of the drive assembly must allow for the full door opening plus adequate clear
working space. Door opening is drive type dependant; refer to datasheet for details. For minimum
clear working space in front of electrical equipment, refer to the applicable standards governing the
installation.

3.3.4 Anchoring Details and Cabling Area

A level floor or foundation should be provided for the installation of MV7000 cabinet assembly. As
standard MV7000 drive is designed for bottom cabling, a suitable cable tray and an adequate
height for cable bending (minimum 0.6m, or more according to project conditions) are required
below the floor or foundation.
The assembly should be anchored to the floor or foundation with suitable anchoring studs or
fasteners. Figure 3-5 illustrates an example for plan of anchoring hole locations, cabling areas and
door hinges. Values and dimensions for a project will be defined in project documents.

3.4.2 Cable Types and Sizes

3.4.2.1 Medium Voltage Power Cable

The selection of cables will be done by the company in charge of installation aspects. This
selection will be based on site conditions, on standards, and on MV7000 data, which will be
provided by CONVERTEAM through project specific documents.
1- power terminal data:
• position in panel
• size
• material and surface treatment
• holes position and size
• earth connection position and characteristics
2- cable inlet data:
• position in panel
3- cable sizing data:
• rated voltage
• voltage transient characteristics
• rated current
• current harmonics
• rated frequency

3.4.2.2 Auxiliary Power, Control and Signal Cable

Standard low voltage power and control cable may be used for the 400 VAC auxiliary power supply
(Signal Class “C1” in Section 3.4.1) or the 230 VAC control circuits (Signal Class “B” in Section
3.4.1).
Shielded cables, preferably those with an overall braided copper shield, must be used for signal
level circuits (Signal Class “A” in Section 3.4.1).

3.4.2.3 Encoder Cable

The following cable types are recommended for use with encoder for distances less than 150 m.
• LIYCY 3 x 2 x 0.75 mm2, twisted in pairs, braided
• 3 Pair, #18 AWG, twisted, individual shield – BELDEN No. 9773

3.4.3 Cabling Guidelines

3.4.3.1 Cable Segregation, Separation Distances

To minimize the possibility of interference between signals of different signal classifications, it is
necessary to segregate cabling according to the signal classification. Cables of similar signal
classification should only be installed in cable tray / conduit of similar signal classification.
It is essential to only route those cables jointly, whose noise levels are compatible.
A cable tray may therefore be assigned only to a single EMC wiring level as defined Section 3.4.1.
The separation between cables installed in a parallel-layered cable tray system must be at least
equal to 300 mm according to the table below.

Levels A B C1 C2 D1 D2
A / 300 600 900 1500 1800
B 300 / 300 600 1200 1500
C1 600 300 / 300 900 1200
C2 900 600 300 / 600 900
D1 1500 1200 900 600 / 300
D2 1800 1500 1200 900 300 /

The above recommended distances are based on the use of solid trays with covers for signal
classification Levels A and B and ladder type tray for all other segregation categories.
When cable is installed in solid grounded steel conduit or enclosed in ducting with good
circumferential magnetic properties, the separation distances in above table can be halved.

Notes:

1- Right angle crossing of trays can be carried out with the distance reduced to 50 mm between
trays of differing signal classification.

2- In the absence of one of the signal classification categories, observe the following procedures.

• For long cable lengths (>100 m) it is recommended that the distances in above table be
maintained.
• For short cable lengths (≤100 m) the tray separation could be reduced by one column of
the above table. E.g. if category C2 is absent, the separation of A from D1 and D2 could be
reduced as follows:

Levels A B C1 D1 D2
A / 300 600 900 1500

3- In the same horizontal plane, the
distance between trays can be reduced
to 200 mm if the height of the tray
edges is sufficient (H> L/10).

4- Apart from the two exceptions below, mixing of noise level is prohibited:
• The positioning of a separation corner allows the routing of B and C1 level cables on the
same support.
• In order to group levels A and B together, the same method is allowed for short routes
(≤20m).

3.4.3.2 Cable tray laying

In order to reduce the electromagnetic disturbances, it is necessary:
• to support the cables over their whole route
• not to leave holes during the connection of 2 sections
• to connect the C2 level cable tray to the equipment concerned by the link

3.4.3.3 Grounding
The cable trays must be interconnected with the equipotential ground network.
For this purpose, a bare copper wire is fixed every 10 m over the entire length of the route and
connected to the ground network at both ends. Moreover, the cable trays are interconnected at
least once every 30 m.

3.4.3.4 Additional cabling recommendations

In order to facilitate reducing the effect between the different wires of the same cable, it is important
to comply with the following rules:
• never mix signals of different levels in the same cable (except if the cable is planned for
this purpose).
• the return wire must always be very close to the feed wire. For the analog signals, this
implies the use of twisted pairs, for all logic binary links, use at least one common
polarity per cable.
• use shielded cables for all signals of A level.
• the spare wires of A level cables are systematically connected to the equipotential
ground network at both ends. The spare wires of the other cables are connected in
compliance with the interconnection guidance drawing.
• the connection of the shields (or electromagnetic screens) to the equipotential ground
connection is according to CONVERTEAM connection diagram. The shield must be
connected at the level of the potential reference plate by a system, which ensures a
circular connection (preferably over 360°). Any connection by wire link (pigtail) is strictly
prohibited.
• the continuity of the shield must be ensured over the whole length of the circuit and
especially when passing through intermediate junction boxes.

WARNING
• Hazardous Voltages are present within this equipment. These voltages may
exist even after isolation of the main and auxiliary supply sources.
• CONFIRM that the stored energy in ALL capacitor circuits is DISCHARGED and
the drive system is GROUNDED before working on the equipment. (Refer to
Section 6 of User manual for the Grounding Procedure.)

In MV7000 standard design, cable access for all cables is from bottom. An overview of cables
access areas is given in Figure 3-5. This section provides a guide to each cabling zone.

This diagram shows the following aspects:

• the MV7000 drive, the transformer and the motor must be connected directly to the main
grounding system.
• the transformer is connected to MV7000 by equipotential bonding cable.
• the cables armors / metal screens / shields must be grounded on both ends.
• the motor and the load are connected by equipotential bonding cable to avoid bearing
currents.

Note: The motor has an isolated bearing at the non-drive-end.

If an encoder is used, it is mounted with an isolated coupling on the motor shaft.
