Tourism is one of the fast-growing industries in the world. If it is carefully managed, it can boost
the economy of different countries, by creating job opportunities or enhacing the beauty of a
region. However, it is highly debatable the effect it might have on the on the people and places. As
far as I am concerned, I believe that tourism brings many benefits to most countries as a source of
income.

First of all, when people from diverse backgrounds visit a place, they will surely need a place to
stay, means of transport to take them to historical buildings, practising sports or eating at
restaurants. Consequently, this will demand the generation of a wide range of jobs for the
community, giving them the opportunity of earning a living from them. In addition, the money
spent by holidaymakers, will stimulate the economy of the region and the country as a whole.

Secondly, we cannot deny the fact that if there is a cautious and responsable development on a
zone, there will be an important improvement in the general infraestructure of the place. For
instance, the national airlines, like Air France or the Neatherlands have increased their activities
and profit through the affluences of tourism to their respective countries.

In contrast, many people have claimed that tourists provoke negative effects on touristic places
and their inhabitants. They argued that not only natural areas are being harmed but also had been
historical buildings and archeological sites disturbed and even robbed, not to mention
enviromental pollution derived from the crowds of visitors. Moreover, the jobs created are often
seasonal and poorly paid, making a few people extremely rich while impoverishing others. All
these factors can have a detrimental effect on the quality of life of the host community.

On the whole, I am convinced that tourism has a positive influence provided its development is
properly planned and controlled. In my opinión, a coutry can become one of the principal
destinations chosen by many people around the globe. Toursim can be the most important source
of welfare for its people and places full of history, culture and beauty.
