“EROR ANALYSIS IN THE USE AFFIXATION IN INDONESIA LANGUAGE PAPER

WRITTEN BY THAI STUDENTS”

Language is a communication tool to express feelings or something that is desired. Based on

(Choudhur, 2014) language can be defined as verbal, physical, innate, biological and basic forms
of communication, from this opinion it can be concluded that language is a communication tool
used by the community. In this era, many foreign students enter Indonesia to study, but there are
many difficulties in learning Indonesian, especially in terms of writing. They have difficulty in
learning the meaning of words, the meaning of this word is very influential in the formation of
words. The science of studying words is Morphology, in morphology there are rules for the
process of using words, namely Affixation. Affixation is the process of using affix additions in
words which then form new words. Indonesian is a language that is very different from other
languages, the structure of Indonesian affixation is more complicated, there are five types of
affixation in Indonesian namely prefix, suffix, infix, confix and klofix. In this journal analyzes
the misuse of affixation in Indonesian grammar that occurs in Thai students studying in
Indonesia. This problem arises from a different perspective, based on James (2013) and Richard
(1974), there are two factors that influence language errors, namely intralingual and interlingual
factors. Intralingual factors are factors caused by source language interference that leads to a
negative impact on the target language, usually because learners often transfer meaning from the
source language they have mastered. Interlingual errors usually appear due to overgeneralization,
ignorance of rules, and false concept. Examples of mistakes made by Thai students in various
types of affixation are as follows:

 In using Prefix in the sentence, “ Buah-buahan mudah ditemukan di mana saja, terbuah
di dalam kebun dan ada dijual di pasar. Incorrect use of the prefix in the word
"terbuah" gives rise to ambiguous meanings should not use the "ter" prefix but rather
the "ber" prefix to "berbuah", then the sentences formed into " Buah-buahan mudah
ditemukan di mana saja, berbuah di dalam kebun dan ada dijual di pasar
 In using Suffix in a sentence, “ Masukkin udang kering dan kemudian tumbuk agar
halus “. Inappropriate use of suffix in the word "masukin" creates an ambiguous
context in the sentence should not use suffix "kin" but rather suffix "kan ", then the
sentence formed to " Masukkan udang kering dan kemudian tumbuk agar halus “.
 In this journal there is no error in using infix
 In the use of confix in a sentence “ Selain itu Kamboja mengadakan kasus tersebut

klofix "di " in the word "butuhkan " is connected to " dibutuhkan " then the actual
sentence being “ Evaluasi merupakan subsistem yang sangat “ dibutuhkan.

Mistakes that occur are very simple but in affixation, a slight misplacement in the addition
of words makes the meaning of the word different and when used in the context of a
sentence causes the word to sometimes be ambiguous to be understood. This problem can be
overcome by continuing to improve the language skills possessed by students by often
training themselves in reading articles in Indonesian.
