Dear Human Resource Department:

I am very enthusiastic to apply for a counselor position. As second year student in the Counselor
Education program who will be graduating in May 2020 from Virginia Commonwealth University, I
possess the experience and qualifications needed to make me the ideal candidate and excel in this job.
The 400+ hours of practicum and internship experience have given me the ability to create and/or
enhance a proactive school counseling program to meet students’ academic, social/emotional, and
career/transitional needs. I am confident that I would make a valuable addition to your team.

As a professional school counselor, my mission is to provide unconditional support and guidance to all
students. My goal is to empower students to become the best version of themselves because they are
contributing members to our society. My leadership experience and 100+ practicum/internship field
hours have prepared me to take on the role as an advocate, collaborator, and leader to make a difference
in the school system and community. In the Spring 2020 semester, I will complete an additional 600
field hours at my internship site. Throughout my experience, I have had the pleasure to work with a
diverse group of students. The ability to offer classroom lessons, lead individual and group sessions, and
interact daily with students have placed me in a position where I am able to directly see students’ needs
and wants, therefore I have been able to be a better advocate to promote a safer and healthier school
environment.

In addition, I have also developed strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. My
volunteer work, employment, and professional organizations through recent years have confirmed my
interest and dedication to our youth and education. It has also been my responsibility give back to the
community. I have made an impact by being a mentor for elementary school aged children, I have
showed presence in the school system by being a substitute teacher for Chesterfield County Schools
Graduate Assistant with the Health Sciences Academy program at John Marshall High School, and I
have also expanded my knowledge by attending the 2019 Virginia Counselor Association Conference in
Hampton, Va.

Thank you so much for taking the time to consider my application for a school counselor position.
Please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience at (434) 251-9235 between the hours of 9 a.m.
to 7 p.m. daily. I look forward to further discuss my qualifications for this position.

Sincerely,

Deona Guy
