The famous Fibonacci sequence adds

2 consecutive numbers to get the third;
1 plus 2 is 3, 2 plus 3 is 5, 3 plus 5 is 8
and so on and so forth. It’s a ratio that’s
seen in nature quite a bit.

Wrap up your favorite baby in it and

they are assured to start absorbing
math concepts from the start!

Reading Charts

We’ve provided both written and charted instructions. However, it’s much
easier to read charts with the Showy Decreases. There’s a tutorial available
in the free down-load section of our web site. KnittingNuances.com

Setting Showy Lines

Every few right side rows, tug gently on the Showy stitches just below the
needle. Before blocking do the same again, holding the top and bottom
Showy sts a few inches apart and pulling gently.

Vertical Showy Decrease Tutorial

Even though this is a garter stitch project, the Showy Decrease is the worked
the same as it is in stockinette. The stitch worked with the k2tog on the right
side is purled on the prior wrong side row.

Starting and Stopping Showy Vertical Lines

Here’s what you need to know about the vertical Showy Decrease:
1. A partner stitch is added temporarily to prevent the line from leaning to the
right. This stitch is eliminated at the top of the line.
2. The k2tog is worked with the increase to the right of it, holding the k2tog
stitch in place (vs. moving diagonally to the right).
3. The increase does not create an eyelet, so you purl it closed on WS rows.

Fibonacci Sequence

The blanket starts with 4 stitches, so instead of an initial Fibonacci sequence of

1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 13 we use 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, and 17 sts between Showy
Vertical lines then work our way back down again.

Note: The abbreviation VL (Vertical Line) is used here to make instructions

easier to read. Specific directions listed in each case. The pattern is easy to
spot in the fabric so you really only need it during set up.

Knitting Instructions

Set Up 12 Showy Vertical Lines (rows 1 & 2 on chart)

‣ Cast on 129 sts with MC2 and long-tail cast on
