 AIM- to generate awareness about violence against men or male abuse in the urban or

metropolitan areas of Delhi/NCR.

 OBJECTIVES-
 To identify ways to end violence against boys/men.
 To acknowledge people about violence against men and boys in society.
 To administer tools with sensitivity to the target group and community.
 BACKGROUND INFORMATION-
 Stop violence against women!” That is a slogan that we have heard, day in and day out,
over the last thirty years and have agreed with, unquestioningly. By doing so, we have also
embraced its underlying assumptions, that violence is a gender issue, that men have been
historically inflicting violence on women, all men (and only men) are capable of violence
and that violence against men (by women) does not exist.

Types of crime done against men in India:

1. Rape
2. Forced Sexual Intercourse
3. Trafficking
4. Forced Marriage
5. Domestic Violence
6. Kidnapping & Abduction
7. False dowry cases
8. False rape and other charges

Results of such cases being unreported and unnoticed:

 Suicide
 Depression
 Divorce or Denial in accepting the family

Why Men Are Silent:

Most of the crimes done against men don’t even get registered and it is because of the sick
mentality that is being carried out by society. A man suffers in silence because of many
reasons:
1. Failing to Accept :

2. Feel Ashamed :

3. Family Pressure :

4. Fear of False Case Charges :

5. The Paralyzed Law

Indian Social Awareness and Activism Forum (INSAAF), and Confidare Research have
drafted a bill which aims to protect men and boys from domestic violence from their spouse,
girlfriends and parents. The draft is called Saving Men from Intimate Terror Act (SMITA)
and the groups aim to introduce in for debate in the parliament

 METHODOLOGY-

3. SAMPLE SIZE- 50 (young and middle age adults of Delhi/NCR)

5. OPERATIONAL DEFINITION-

 Male abuse-Violence on men can range from anything like - physical violence; emotional
violence with wife threatening suicide to intimidate and control the husband; verbal abuse ;
throwing objects like utensils, cell phones and crockery at the husband; sexual abuse if
husband denies sex to mental abuse by constant threats of implicating the husband and his
family under false case of dowry and domestic violence.

 Secondary Research will be done to gather information on the concerned topic

 Published articles will be studied to know about the past incidents and what could be the
possible root causes of the violence.
• Using different media platforms to communicate about the cause with the target group.
• Planning, constructing and conducting activities like Street play, TedXTalk.
 Baseline data is collected before you start implementing a project.

• The baseline should provide information about the current situation of violence in the
community and what is currently being done about it, including information about
available services for survivors of violence and their accessibility. This baseline
information will be used during the life of the project.
• Enquire online and with other organisations and government departments to find out what
existing data on violence against men is available.

 Pilot study - activities conducted before implementing them to identify and remove
errors as much as possible. Also, modifications in the planning are done accordingly.

 Save Indian Family Foundation, an organization working on men’s rights, has now
approached MPs to submit a private member bill in the parliament to start the steps towards
enacting a law for protection of men from domestic violence.

 CONCLUSION-
If the program goes as planned , it will surely make a difference in the society in a better way. I
chose this topic as it is not something which is talked about most in India and some other
countries as well. Although, the plan is taken to be flexible so that, on-the-spot modifications can
be done .
Team members will be motivated timely to contribute as many ideas as they with freedom.
Communicating with people on this serious issue is still easier in the metropolitan areas than
rural ones.
The main motive is just to aware people about the topic which you don’t get to read this in the
newspaper every day. Crime against men in India is a mum topic. Nobody wants to raise it as
most of the time the victim himself refuses to open up about it and the fact that Indian law is a
disabled child to parent against such crimes.
Also, the victims may somewhere feel consoled that more and more people are getting
acknowledged with it.
Next time, you talk of gender equality make sure to talk about it with its full essence. The youth
are the one who can voice their opinions and help eradicate the nation of its inequality and crippled
mentality by teaching what equality always stood for!
