SPEECH RD

As I start my opening remarks, I would like refresh you of a very beautiful quote
from a very famous lawyer, Janet Wood Reno who served as the United States
Attorney General from 1993-2001. She said and I quote,
“I think lawyers who engage in pro bono service to protect those who
cannot help themselves are truly the heroes and the heroines of the
legal profession.”
Ladies and Gentlemen, It is a pleasure in behalf of the whole BJMP Regional Office
Family to greet and welcome you as assemble your 4th BJMP Lawyer’s Annual
Consultative Workshop Conference.
As we look at our thriving and ever dynamic Jail Bureau right, I cannot help but
compare it to the decades past; so much has been achieved and milestones has
been conquered. We have been bale to put ourselves in equal or at par with other
agencies and government institutions that similarly promote justice and legal
principles. We have carved the name of the bureau as one of the significant
partners in the promotion and administration of justice. We garnered the esteem
of the courts when it comes to technicalities and legalities in the custody and
detention of PDLs.
We have set ourselves as the primordial correction institution among all other
penal systems in the country when it comes to formulating and implementing legal
policies concerning the rights of PDLs.
We have been able to drew attention and recognition from various agencies,
government or non-government when it comes to the promotion and
implementation of laws and statutes that will help the PDLs in their quest for their
constitutional right of due process, that will ultimately spell their release from
detention.
All of this, is because of the competent, able and knowledgeable lawyers from our
ranks in the BJMP, hence the whole BJMP family is grateful for each and everyone
of you.

As lawyers, you are right now in the ranks of an institution that embraces the
underprivileged and those that we consider destitute and cannot help themselves,
though far from the riches of private practice and greener opportunities in the
skyscrapers of commercial law practice that awaits you outside our uniforms and
badges, always remember;
Your everyday act of striking those computer keyboard for a legal
policy that concerns the plight of every PDL;
your every act of answering the questions thrown by PDLs in an open
forum during your paralegal visitation;
and your appearances as legal legislative liaison to advocate and
promote a law that will favor each PDL - “are themselves acts of heroes
and heroines”
Thank you dear BJMP Lawyers and welcome once again to the 4th
BJMP Lawyer’s Annual Consultative Workshop Conference.
