The melody is played very legato and warm by the horns, lower brass, and woodwinds. The upper woodwinds have a counter figure which is followed by the full band at bar 23. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE at bar 41 is played in a mysterious manner by the clarinets, saxophones, and marimba. Watch the poco rit. at bar 57 which goes into the glittering introduction (61) of DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. The first alto saxophone solo at bar 67 is to be played with much feeling. At bar 85, the lower brass and woodwinds are very powerful, while the higher woodwind counter melody and cornet rhythmic figures lead to a poco ri followed by a Freely section, NOBODY DOES IT BETTER starts at bar 98 and is a showcase for the saxophone sec- tion. This should be played in a “bluesy”” 12/8 feel, that moves to the entrance of the full band at bar 106. At this point the first chair cornet changes to flugelhor (if possible) to be ready for the solo at bar 115. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY opens with a flugelhorn solo followed by the full band at bar 127 and rounded out by the return of the solo at bar 136. The baritone horn solo (cued in the tenor saxophone) featured in LIVE AND LET DIE is effectively introduced by a four measure interlude at bar 139 marked Slowly (J = 64), ‘The baritone solo leads into an exciting double time section (J = 4) at bar 155, which ends at the fermata—bar 170. The familiar JAMES BOND THEME begins at bar 175 in the low brass, and concludes with a powerful and exciting tutti climax featuring the entire band, Please watch all dynamics, accents, and tempo indications in this interesting program piece.
