Batch: ‘C’

Programme: T.Y B. Tech Course Name: Control System Tutorial

Branch: Electrical Academic Year: 2018-2019

1.
Consider the unit-step response of a unity-feedback control system whose open-loop
transfer function is

Obtain the rise time, peak time, maximum overshoot, and settling time.

2. Consider the closed-loop system given by

Determine the values of ξ and ωn so that the system responds to a step input with
approximately 5% overshoot and with a settling time of 2 sec. (Use the 2% criterion.)
3. Obtain the unit-impulse response and the unit step response of a unity-feedback system
whose open-loop transfer function is

Consider the system shown in Figure (a). The damping ratio of this system is 0.158 and
the undamped natural frequency is 3.16 rad/sec. To improve the relative stability, we
employ tachometer feedback. Figure (b) shows such a tachometer-feedback system.
4. Determine the value of Kh so that the damping ratio of the system is 0.5.

5. Referring to the system shown in figure below , determine the values of K and k such
that the system has a damping ratio ξ of 0.7 and an undamped natural frequency ωn of
4 rad/sec..

6. Consider the system shown in figure below . Determine the value of k such that the
damping ratio ξ is 0.5.Then obtain the rise time tr peak time tp, maximum overshoot
Mp, and settling time ts in the unit-step response.

7. Consider a unity-feedback control system with the closed-loop transfer function

8. Consider the system shown in figure below

(i) With switch K open, determine the damping factor and the natural frequency of the
system. If a unit ramp input is applied to the system, find the steady state output. Take
KA =5.
(ii) The damping factor is to be increases to 0.7 by including a derivative output
compensation. Find the value of kt to achieve this. Find the value of undamped natural
frequency and the steady state error due to a unit ramp input.

9. Find the steady state errors for unit step, unit velocity and unit acceleration inputs for
the following systems.

10. For the unity feedback system with,
