DRIGGERS DAYS
Supporting Bible Translation through Youth Ministry

The Good News of the Kingdom “The seed that fell on the good
We arrived in Ukarumpa on July 29, 2019. Jade attended soil represents those who truly
school on the 30th! We also immediately jumped into our understand and hear God’s
planning for Encounter. (Encounter is the annual spiritual
retreat for grades 9-12.) Planning for this event usually begins
Word and produce a harvest”
about six months before, but because we were on furlough
-MATTHEW 13:23 NLT
our ability to plan ahead was very limited. God provided a
gifted speaker (also a wonderful family friend) from within our
organization and a location further into the highlands with
another mission organization, but otherwise all the logistics and financial responsibilities were left to be
completed within the first six weeks following our arrival. There were a few hiccups and drastic challenges to
work around, but God was abundantly gracious and the event was phenomenal. We are still in awe of what
God accomplished in such a short amount of time.

The five day and four night event was filled to the brim with challenging Biblical teaching, God-honoring
worship, team building games, quiet reflection, intense group discussions, early mornings, late nights and
tons of great food made from scratch over open flames. Our average workdays during Encounter were 19
hours long and every single second was worth the gift of the two students who made the life changing
decision to choose Jesus as the Lord and Savior of their lives. To God alone be the glory!

Serving with Wycliffe USA November 2019

As many of you hopefully know by now through

communication last month and updates through social
media, we are no longer serving in Papua New Guinea.
God very clearly redirected us back to the United States.
We desire to honor God and bring glory to His name even
through this difficult transition without causing further
division or confusion. We are not able to disclose more
information other than we did not leave PNG because we
wanted to or because we were asked to. This has been
the hardest thing we have ever done, because we love
PNG and we love the ministry God gave us there. We are
heartbroken to leave the youth we loved to serve. If you
would like to talk with us about our decision, please do
not hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Jade with a few of her friends the morning of our departure

This transition is exceptionally difficult, however we
believe God in His sovereignty can use difficult things to
direct us. We chose to come to Texas to be near to one of Wycliffe’s headquarters in order to debrief the
circumstances of our departure and other hard parts of our missionary life in Ukarumpa. God in His goodness
and graciousness is meeting our needs! He has provided a temporary home and vehicle for us through family
and friends here in Texas. Liberty University has extended Miriam’s missionary scholarship through the end of
her school year, despite the fact that we are not currently serving overseas. Jade has sadly lost the credit of
her first nine weeks of her freshman year of high school, but has started high school again through North Star
Academy online with determination and a positive attitude. Marty is continuing his coursework through
Kingswood University. We continue to feel called by God to the work of youth ministry through the avenue of
Bible translation, but we have absolutely no idea what the future holds. It is gut wrenching to be in this new in-
between, yet we remain encouraged by the truth that we serve God and that He is with us no matter where in
the world we are.

We are trusting God to reveal to us what His good plans are for our future. Following the recommendation of
our counselor, we will begin the conversation of potential new locations to serve after the first of the new year.
Until then we will continue in the hard work of healing and grieving from the sudden loss of our home,
community and ministry of serving the youth of Ukarumpa.

We remain completely reliant on the Lord to provide for all of our needs through this transition, including our
finances. The expense of being in Texas and the sudden cost of travel here exceed our current ministry
budget, but God is supplying for us regardless of our circumstances. We covet your continued prayers for our
family in this time. We pray that God will continue to be glorified through our efforts and are so grateful to
each of you for your prayers, encouragements and partnerships. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with us.
Our updated contact information is in the footer below.

Until all have heard,

Marty, Sara and those girls
