1.- The Alphabet: General Description

The English alphabet is the current method of writing English. It consists of 26 letters:
The exact shape of the printed letters varies depending on the typeface. The shape of the
handwritten letters may differ significantly from the standard in print (and between the
individual ones), especially when written in italic style.
Written English also uses a series of digraphs 1, such as: Ch, Ph, Sh, Th, Wh, Bb, Dd, Ff,
Gg, Ll, Rr, Ss and Tt but are not considered part of the alphabet.

This version, organized by the monk Byrhtferð, includes the et, the tironian note ond (⁊)
and four additional letters: the wynn (Ƿƿ), the þorn (Þþ), the eth (Ðð), the yogh (ȝ) and the
æsc (Ææ).

Currently, the symbols: Thorn (þ), Eth (ð), Wynn (ƿ) and Yogh (ȝ), are deprecated and not
used, while the ligatures ash (æ) and ethel (œ) are archaic in the English.

Pronunciation: The pronunciation of the letters in English may vary slightly between different
countries such as the letter "R" and the letter "Z" in England and the United States which
makes a certain difference between "two types" of spoken English, the British English and
American English. But by general acceptance and according to the phonetic alphabet, the
pronunciation of the alphabet in English is as follows:
