Methodology

Research Design

This study is a quantitative research which reduces data to numerical findings that

are often expressed in charts and graphs. It is use to quantify attitudes, behaviors and

other defined variable and generalize result from a larger sample population.

Researchers will be using a descriptive type of research which aims to observe and

report a certain phenomena.

This research will determine the Attitudes of Grade 12 Humanities and Social

Sciences Students in conducting research. The participants will be selected through

simple random sampling and by using the Slovens Formula researchers will determine

the number of participants. The participants will be the 202 students from Grade 12

Humanities and Social Sciences, the 202 participants will answer the question by

rating the Five (5) point Likert Scale.

Context and Participants

This study will be conducted on October 2019 at Bukidnon National High School,

located at Sayre Highway, Malaybalay City, 8700 Bukidnon, Philippines. Bukidnon

National High School, a leader School in the Division of Bukidnon, serves not only

the youth of the Malaybalay but also to the students who hail from other places, in its

portals are students representing across section of society regardless of their ethnic

background, religious belief, and economic status. The School offers Junior High

School and Senior High School. The Junior High School has Special Program such as
Science Curriculum, Special Program in the Arts, and Special Program in Sports

while the Senior High School has Five (5) tracks namely STEM, ABM, HUMSS,

GAS and TVL.

There will be 202 Students from Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences for the

School Year 2019-2020. The 202 Students will be divided into 9 sections, this results

that in Five (5) sections there will be 22 respondents while the remaining Four (4)

sections will have 23 respondents, from ages 17-19 years old regardless of its gender

whether Male or Female or in their Socio Economic Status, with that there will be

equal opportunity for the students to answer and the data will be well represented.

Instrument

The primary research instrument was a questionnaire adapted from the “Attitude

toward Research Scale created by Papanastasion (2002), whose objective was to

determine the Attitudes of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences Student in

conducting Research. Papanastasion used the tool in his research which is consisted

with Five (5) point Likert Style reply categories. The probable responses in every

statement were allocated as Stongly Agree (5), Agree (4), Neutral (3), Dis Agree (2),

and Strongly Dis Agree (1). The summation of every statement of all students

illustrates his/her score on the Attitudes toward Research Scale. Therefore, the

minimum score on the Attitude Scale is One (1) and the maximum is Five (5). It

indicates that lower scores on the Scale reflect the less encouraging Attitude towards

research and vice versa.

Data Gathering

The researchers will use the qualitative method, They will gather the data by using

survey questionnaires that will be answer by the participants of their study, by

attaching a permit to the questionnaire approved by the principal of the

BukidnonNational High School. Since the researchers used the qualitative method to

gather data, they used a close ended item questions in the survey questionaires.

Data Analysis

The data were analyze and gather with legal and base on the result of the conduct

survey of the researcher. The researcher used simple random sampling in determining

the samples of the study. Descriptive analyses were performed on the sample groups

to obtain a clear understanding of the population, the success of the survey was

through the active participation of the participants and by honestly answer the

question. Mean Scores and Standard Deviation of the students in Attitude Toward

Research (ATR) Scale and its factors will be measure through Descriptive Statistics.
