Expectations Addressed:
4, 1.1: explore sounds, rhythms, and language structures, with guidance and on their own
4, 11.8: demonstrate knowledge of most letters of the alphabet in different contexts
Beginning/Engagement: - have the class sit in a circle. Make sure that everyone is ready to learn.
Acknowledge the students who are sitting quietly, waiting for instruction
- introduce the lesson by going around the room asking who remembers
what each student’s name starts with. Give them hints (sound the first
letter out).

Middle: - Explain that we will be learning how to put letters together to make our
name. Show the students an example of your name. Sound it out for
them and ask them what letter you’re sounding out
- After showing your name, point out the tables that have been prepared
for centres. Choose six students who can come to the table with you to
do the activity
Wrap-Up: - Once the activity with each student is complete, have the students show
you their end result
- Have them clean up their area once they’re done
