CAVITE MUTINY (REVOLUTION)

The Cavite Mutiny is considered to be the most controversial and basically

considered to be one of the most remarkable point if our revolutionary era of the
Philippine history. We cannot deny the fact that execution of the 3 Filipino martyr priests
outraged the nationalism if the Filipino; a driving force that opened the eyes of the
Filipinos to the Spanish inhumane, anuses, and unacceptable governance. This picture
lead Dr. Jose Rizal to revolutionize through his writings however, this not was not just
the very main cause of this "mutiny" as perceived by the Spanish. Due to the polo y
servicio and the tribute the Filipinos was able to understand that the abuses and inhumane
acts of Spanish was already in its extent. Yes I concede that technically speaking this is
considered to be a rebellion. For it defines that it is an act where a group or a person
makes aggressive/violent actions against the government. However, I would like to argue
that this is clearly an act of revolution. Through this revolution other provinces and other
revolutionary groups was influenced to fight against the Spanish government that aims
independence not just assimilation. This revolt has brought Filipinos into the rage of
revolution.

Let's considered this fact, if this pag-aalsa was not lead by Filipinos, do you think
we have already achieved our independence. I would like to discuss why do we consider
it as a revolution? I will give to you 3 levels of analysis and it goes like this. First, let's
define revolution as fundamental political reorganization. Now, the Cavite revolution is
not just fight for rights for workers who were abused and excessive tax exploitation but
they were urged to fight because they are already sick of Spanish policies and
governance. They wanted to overthrow the government. Technically this means they
wanted to reorganize the political structure of the government that basically proves to
itself that this Cavite mutiny is a revolution.

Secondly, the very vision of this pag-aalsa is a sudden radical change. We would
like to impart to you this paradigm that Filipinos in this era has no other choice but to
achieve independence through a revolt. The abuses became a force for these Filipinos to
fight and bring changes in the government. Therefore, it proves to itself that the Cavite
mutiny is a revolution as I mentioned to you earlier the very definition of revolution in
the context of Filipino's perception.

Thirdly, a revolution has positive results. Mutiny/Rebellion has no positive effect.

Why? Because of this act which served as a jumpstart to the revolutionary era, this started
the fire and urge for revolution especially to the leaders. Like Bonifacio, he was able to
fight and understand the status quo and it lead him to organize a group that became very
important in the understanding of our history. This resulted to more revolts in the
provinces that totally established the Spanish government. More Filipinos took part in
bringing back the glory of the country stole by the Spanish. We enjoy our independence
and freedom because of this. That's the very reason why we strongly believe that we
don’t just consider Cavite mutiny as a mutiny but through my discussion I gave you a
paradigm and deeper analysis of what is the definition of revolution and how this Cavite
mutiny being characterized and contextualized as a revolution.
