Problems fixed in Feature Release 5

The following table contains a list of the software problems fixed in Feature Release 5. The PCS (Product
Change System) numbers identify software issues that Waters personnel monitor within a system change
request tracking tool.

Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

21060 6890 - Added FID and FPD Lit Offset parameters.

35145 For 6890 GC instruments, the application appeared to round off the Split Ratio
value calculated from the entered flow values and then adjusted the Split Flow to
be consistent with the new, rounded off Split Ratio value. This was corrected by
adding more digits of precision to the inlet flow parameters (to avoid round-off
errors in flow) and allow a more exact value for gas flow in GC methods.

36107 Batch processing did not always extract and process all channels of a method set
for large sample sets with large data files.
Improved memory handling fixes this issue.
However, if the processing server runs out of memory while processing a large
batch job, the Message Center now displays one or more memory mapping
messages or messages about fetching a method, followed by this final message:
“Background processing job aborted due to a memory allocation failure”.

37031 EMD 1000 – Edit method parameters and Open Access masses were not acquired
properly when the method set was run using certain instruments. Updates to the
XML formatting logic corrected this issue.

37151 5890 GC – The purge valve switched to an off state during instrument setup. The
functionality was updated so that if the valve is enabled, its position is not changed
at setup unless you program a specific event.

37272 5890 GC – Attempting to run a sample set with multiple injections on the same
line resulted in an error message. Updates to the error handling logic corrected
this issue.

Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

37318 A maximum column precision of 14 is now available in the Component Editor

Amounts columns in Alter Sample, the Default Amounts tab of the Processing
Method, and in the Sample Weight and Dilution fields. Rounding was corrected in
the few cases where numbers with increased precision were rounding incorrectly.

37716 The “View Sample Values Used in Calculations” field showed multiple values. This
condition no longer occurs.

37751 Duplicate results for the same channel were created in a Results Set without
notification.
To determine whether duplicate results were superseded with newer results, add
the new “Results Superseded” column to the Result table.

37887 6890 GC with G1512 injector controller. If the “next inject delay” option was not
used, the instrument failed after the first injection. This has been corrected such
that the use of the “next inject delay” option is no longer required.

38047 6890A and 6890 Plus GC injection volume was incorrect when a nanoliter adapter
was not installed. This has been corrected.
To set syringe size parameters for the particular injector you are using, click the
“GC Sample Set Info” button.
See also: PCS number 41880

38495 To run dual-tower injections on a GC instrument, the instrument required two

inlets, two detectors, and two injectors. You can now use third-party injectors to
run dual-tower injections on the GC instrument, but the instrument still requires
two inlets and two detectors.

38520 The solvent composition of an isocratic instrument method sometimes changed

after saving the method.
This condition no longer occurs.

38596 Users who had the Alter User privilege (user account properties) could alter an
account to a user type with more privileges.
The list of available User Types will now only reflect User Types that have
privileges equal to or a subset of those of the account that is accessing the list.
A new privilege called “Assign User Types to Users” has been added. Users who
have the “Assign User Types to Users” privilege can assign any user type (except
Admin) to user accounts.
See also: PCS number 40857

38665 It was difficult to display the correct fields in the Sample Set Method Editor/Alter
Sample for the validation test(s) to which the sample set applies.
A new Apply Table Preferences toolbar enables you to display the fields required to
complete a validation test.

Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

38748 Some systems experienced Server Busy messages, MFC errors, and required LAC/E
module reboots because the number of Oracle processes had been set to 150.
The software now sets the minimum number of processes to 500 at installation or
upgrade.

39070 Empower/SDMS Restore window sometimes displayed an incorrect project list. In

order to resolve this problem, a new toolkit call was added for use in a future
release of SDMS.

39085 In a global project, when creating a view filter for injections, channels, or results,
you cannot specify a sample name condition such as =PQ* or =#. The moment
you apply a newly created view filter with a condition for sample name, the sample
name column disappears from the view. However, the default view filter includes
the sample name column.

39097 In Method Validation Manager, in the Method Validation Linearity Test, %Response
Factor was not calculated.
The Linearity Test now calculates the %Response Factor and %Response Factor
Mean.

39173 Changes to the W600 pump gradient program were not applied when it was run.
Flow from a previous method version was used between injections.
The software now sets the flow rate and percentages in the isocratic fields to
always match the percentages in the first line of the gradient table.

40091 Windows Server 2003 on a Citrix Server failed the Verify Files check, indicating
that the operating system was unsupported.
This has been corrected for new installations only.

40106 Added a new formula for plate count calculation as specified by Japanese
Pharmacopoeia 15 (JP15) while retaining current plate count calculation.

40151 Sign Off 1 user was presented with a full list of reasons despite System Policy
restrictions.
Now, when users enter an invalid reason for Sign Off 1, they will receive the
following message:
“This reason is not in the list of Valid Signoff 1 Reasons required to proceed with
Signoff 2. Do you wish to continue with this sign off?”
Users must enter a valid Signoff 1 reason in order to assure a successful Signoff 2.
See also: PCS numbers 41566 and 41977

40326 6890 GC - could not select the detector makeup gas. Makeup gas types are now
available for FID, FPD, NPD, and TCD.

Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

40365 The error message “Connection to chromatographic system lost, eventID 54” was
caused by instrument problems that would generate an error condition that the
busLAC/E driver software could not handle.
New busLAC/E driver software is now installed to handle the error condition. A
new capability is also available to report Instrument Server events into a log file,
which you can activate as part of a troubleshooting process.
After installing Empower 2 Feature Release 5, you must manually install the
busLAC/E driver.
See: The section in this document entitled “Installing the busLAC/E driver”.

40408 The Summarize Custom Fields function does not work in Empower 2 as it did in
Empower 1154. The Summarize Custom Fields function will continue to work as it
currently does in Empower 2.
The new Summarize Custom Fields Incrementally function provides the capability
to summarize custom fields in the way that the Summarize Custom Fields function
did in Empower 1154. These two additional functions were also added to vary the
summarize custom field conditions:
 Summarize Custom Fields Incrementally (Exclude Faulted)

 Summarize Custom Fields (Exclude Faulted)

40487 Percent Recovery calculation needed more flexibility to accommodate "corrected"

spike/recovery experiments.
You can now set the assessed field in the accuracy test to either % Recovery (the
default) or a user-created real peak custom field.

40522 In Method Validation Manager, the Exceeds Threshold flag in the Filter Validation
and Stability tests was being incorrectly set when a reference was used.
This field now works as it should.
As a result of this correction, when a reference filter is used in the Filter Validation
Test, or a reference storage condition is used in the Stability Test, the values in
the following fields will be calculated correctly:
In the Data Table: “Total Area Exceeding Threshold”, “Corrected %Area”, “Relative
Peaks Exceeding Threshold”, and “Faulted Relative Peaks Exceeding Threshold”.
In the Relative Peaks Table: “Corrected %Area”

40638 The AutoArchive utility might crash when a project is queued and then deleted.
AutoArchive now checks first to determine whether the project exists before it runs
project integrity. If the project does not exist, it logs a message in the Message
Center for the project.

40649 The DBProject.BackupProject toolkit function failed in some cases due to an

incorrect Oracle_Home setting.
This issue has been corrected.

716002505, Rev. A
Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

40654 In Method Validation Manager, the Accuracy Test did not allow the use of a custom
field.
For the Accuracy test, you can now set the assessed field to %Recovery (the
default) or to a user-created real peak custom field.

40725 When using expected mass, manually adjusting the end point of the last peak in a
result produced an MFC error in review.
This error no longer occurs.

40754 In Method Validation Manager, Dilution and Sample Weight fields were not working
correctly.
These fields now work as they should in Method Validation calculations.

40816 In Method Validation Manager, field names in the Supportable Estimation Table
were unclear.
The fields in the Supportable Estimation Table have been renamed.

40848 The Dilution field did not input or display certain values correctly.
The software now restricts the display of all double precision numbers (both user
entered and calculated) to a maximum of 15 significant figures. Rounding was
corrected in the few cases where numbers with increased precision were rounding
incorrectly.

40857 Non-Administrative users who have privileges to create and alter user accounts
could not see the entire list of "Allowed User Types" (excluding the Admin user
type).
For users who create and alter user accounts, to view the entire list of “Allowed
User Types”, you must have both the new privilege “Assign User Types to Users”
and the existing privileges “Alter User” or “Create User”.
See also: PCS number 38596

40861 In Method Validation Manager, additional calculations were needed in the

Supportable Estimation table of the Intermediate Precision Test.
The Supportable Estimation Table now includes the fields: Total DF, Total SD LCL,
Total SD UCL, Total %RSD LCL, and Total %RSD UCL.

40884 The Dissolution plot overlay could be set to draw lines to the origin. This has been
corrected.
See also: PCS number 41056

41016 In Method Validation Manager, the use of the term “Experiment” for a column
name in the Supportable Estimation Table was incorrect.
The table column was renamed to “Points/Experiment” to improve clarity.

41054 In Method Validation Manager, you could not specify multiple preps and injections.

716002505, Rev. A
Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

Rather than having to override the red X, you can now set a checkbox in the test
parameters to allow the use of both multiple preps and injections.

41056 The software did not include the capability to extrapolate plot lines from the origin
to the first dissolution point of a dissolution plot overlay.
This capability is now provided by setting the new Line to Origin field in the
Dissolution Plot properties to True. Note that the dissolution assay should be
validated over the range of values plotted.
See also: PCS number 40884

41116 The capability to save layout preferences in the QuickStart User Interface was
missing.
This capability is now available.

41119 Under certain circumstances, when using exponential notation, the Component
editor might incorrectly round values.
Rounding was corrected in the few cases where numbers with increased precision
were rounded incorrectly.

41151 A user logged on with a Guest user type was able to sign off results when this user
was also assigned a user type with the privilege to sign off results.
The software now grants you only those privileges assigned to the user type that
you select when you log on. If you have multiple user types, such as Administrator
and Guest, when you log on as Guest, you have only Guest privileges.

41163 Plate definitions could be exported as a text file, but the capability to import plate
definition text files into Empower was not available.
You can now import plate type definition text files into Empower, so long as you
have the Create Plate Type privilege.

41327 When creating an instrument method with a gradient using any composition and
flow rate, if you changed the flow rate within the instrument method, the software
downloaded the initial condition flow rate, not the newly specified flow rate.
To resolve this problem, the software sets the flow rate and percentages in the
isocratic fields to always match the flow rate and percentages in the first line of the
gradient table.

41336 The message “Unable to store Post-Run report” prevented the upload of buffered
data.
When the size of a post-run report now exceeds 32K during buffering, the software
will recover the data, but it cannot save the post-run report because it is too large.
The software displays a message stating this condition.

41343 Confirm ID for User Changes can be bypassed by cancelling.

This condition no longer occurs.

716002505, Rev. A
Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

41346 “Custom Field Type" can be changed by overwriting.

To resolve this issue, you cannot copy a custom field that has the same name as
an existing custom field, when the two fields have different types.

41426 Large batch processing of Mass Spectrometer data did not extract and process all
channels of a sample set.
Improved memory handling resolved this issue. Large batch processing now runs
successfully.

41541 6890 Method parameters were not downloaded to an instrument if components are
not enabled.
This problem no longer occurs. The software sends the initial conditions to the
instrument even when the column is not selected for use.

41566 Free text was permitted for Sign Off 1 despite System Policy restrictions.
A message now appears when signoff 1 is invalid, indicating that a valid reason for
signoff 1 is required in order to complete signoff 2.
See also: PCS number 40151 and 41977

41567 Locked channels could be unlocked without requiring a comment and without
requiring an audit trail message.
This condition no longer occurs.
All lock channel and unlock channel actions are now recorded in audit trail.

41590 Under certain circumstances, Review might crash when attempting to manually
add a drop line in the region of a deleted peak.
This condition no longer occurs.

41659 6890 Inlet purge valve did not hold pressure of zero in Constant Pressure mode.
The instrument control logic was modified so that the instrument will be left in its
current state (such as ‘off’) when both purge On Time and purge Flow Rate are set
to zero.

41662 When producing a summary report for bracketing with overlap, each standard from
an overlapping bracket produced two results (duplicate results).
This issue was fixed by adding the “Include Duplicate Results” checkbox on the
properties for the Table report group. Select or clear this checkbox to specify
whether you want to include or exclude duplicate results.

41685 When User A was logged into Empower, User B with a valid user name and
password was able to sign off results in User A’s session.
Signoff authority is now verified against the logged-in user.

716002505, Rev. A
Problems fixed in Feature Release 5:

PCS number Description

41756 Toolkit: When a user other than Administrator used DBProject, an invalid privilege
error was thrown on project backup.
This condition no longer occurs.

41820 Users sometimes experienced problems saving the archive file during an Archive
and Remove Audit Trail process because a temporary audit trail table space was
not deleted.
This condition might have occurred when attempting to save the audit trail to a
mapped drive path containing spaces in the name.
Now, if you attempt to save the audit trail to a mapped drive name containing
spaces, the error message that appears now clearly states that mapped drive
paths cannot contain spaces, and the temporary audit trail table space will be
deleted.

41858 After running System Precision Signal to Noise with certain instruments, a ProcMon
MFC Application Error might occur.
This condition no longer occurs.

41880 6890A and 6890Plus GC injection volume was incorrect with G1512A controller.
This has been corrected. To set the syringe size parameters for the injector you
are using, click the GC Sample Set Info button.
See also: PCS number 38047

41917 Percent Amount was not calculating results correctly.

The Amount values used to calculate %Amount are no longer rounded to 3 decimal
places prior to performing the calculation of %Amount.

41967 User authentication was tracked per client instead of per user.
The software now tracks authentication attempts (and failures) for each user
account.

41977 When modifying the default string for Signoff 1, the failed signoff was not reported
until signoff 2.
If a default string is modified, it must now be selected again as a valid reason for
signoff.
See also: PCS number 40151 and 41566

41996 Setting a password on the Email Center for Empower 2 in Japanese, Chinese, or
Korean prevented further access.
This condition no longer occurs.

42002 After installing e-mail center in Japanese, messages are garbled.

Implemented the character sets and encoding for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

42003 Setting a password on AutoArchive Properties for Empower 2 Japanese, Chinese, or

Korean prevented further access.
This condition no longer occurs.

42015 Method Differences did not show instrument parameters or parameter values for
COM instruments.
This condition no longer occurs due to Empower software; some instruments may
require updated instrument drivers in order to fully show all method differences.

42043 On clients connected to UNIX (Sun Solaris), the Method Validation Review Data
Table did not sort by Result Id.
The Data Table now sorts by Result ID on clients connected to UNIX (Sun Solaris),
as it currently does on Windows platforms.

42079 GPC data with an exponential skim was only shown in the chromatogram view.
This condition no longer occurs. All skims are taken into account when plotting a
distribution.

42084 The ability to create a custom field that is the product of the peak fields in a
chromatogram was missing.
You can now determine the product of peak fields using the new multiplication
summary function PROD that works similarly to SUM, AVG, and other summary
functions.

42106 The system suitability summary plot group worked correctly for peak type fields,
but it did not work correctly for result type fields.
This problem has been fixed as follows: The Result, Calibration, and Cal curve
fields now use the Result field “Channel Name” to separate plots for each unique
channel. Channel Name is also used as the plot title. All other fields plotted on
the Y axis that apply to channels will continue to use the Chromatogram field
“Channel”.

42138 The requirement to view all Empower 2154 signoff pages could be bypassed by
printing the reports.
This issue no longer occurs.

42158 Instrument Server would hang with rapid abort/inject selections with 2489.
This issue no longer occurs.

42166 The ability to suppress legends on Spectrum plot was needed.

The Spectra tab in the Plot Properties dialog box includes a new checkbox called
“Include Channel/Spectra Description”. Use this checkbox to enable/disable the
display of channel/spectra descriptions. In Report Publisher, the default font size
for legends has been changed to 8 point.

42355 Empower 2 displayed wrong unit label for micro-ECD GC data.

This issue no longer occurs.

42594 Setup error occurred when using a 6890 GC Gas Sampling valve (GSV) for
injections.
Empower software includes two new controls, one for each possible GSV to support
GSV injection capability. A GSV injection and a tower injection cannot occur for
the same injection.

42595 Method Validation Manager: The Validation Test Data table showed duplicate
results with multiple signoffs.
This condition no longer occurs.

42617 MVM - Japanese translation for Q-Factor was incorrect.

Translations for “Sample Preparation” and “Q factor” have been corrected.

42618 MVM - Japanese translation for busLAC/E Scan was incorrect.

The translation has been corrected.

42620 MVM - Japanese translation for Sample Preparation. The translation was changed
to match the correct translation in Feature Release 3.

Online Help New information, enhancements, and corrections added within the Empower 2
defects online Help.

41811 When performing an archive and remove, a message displays: “Archive Failure –
could not create archive file. The most likely cause is access or free space issues at
the destination.”
When selecting “Archive and Remove System Audit Trail,” if you are archiving to a
network location, you must use a mapped drive.

41969 When viewing PDA Libraries in Configuration Manager using the following procedure,
the spectra no longer appeared in the selected library:
1. Expand the Libraries tree, and then select Libraries.

2. In the Libraries list, right-click a library, and then click Open.

3. While the library is open, collapse the Library tree view, and then expand it
again.

4. In the Libraries list, right-click a library, and then click Open.

Result: The library appears empty (no components listed) because the value of
“Max Rows” changed to 0.

To fix this problem, change the value of Max Rows to 1000, and update the view.
The spectra now appear in the library.

42113 The newly implemented Wash Needle function does not work with v1.00 of the 2707
Instrument Control Software (ICS). A new version of the ICS will resolve this issue.

42492 When using Empower 2 FR5 on Windows Vista, and opening the TQD Tune page
Diagnostics tab, if the information below the Vacuum, Power Supply, and RF fields is
not visible on the screen and resizing the window does not correct the problem,
increase your screen resolution settings until you see the entire window.

42493 The default screen resolution might not be sufficient to view the Function Details of
an MS function.
To increase your screen resolution settings, right-click Desktop > Properties >
Settings tab, and increase the settings until you can see the entire screen.

42510 The amount values in the Component Editor for Sample Set Method History are
incorrectly set to default precision.
Empower 2 now saves changes for real numbers in samples, sample sets, and
component amounts, when those changes increase the number past the default
precision (maximum of 14 digits). However the sample history and sample set
history continue to format the numbers with the default precision. Therefore, if the
changes increase the number past the default precision of 14 digits, and the before
and after numbers format to identical strings, the sample history states that the
number was changed to the same number.

4. Accept these changes, and reboot the computer, as necessary.

Configure IIS and FTP:

1. Access Computer Management > Services and Applications > Internet
Information Services (IIS) Manager (not Internet Information Services IIS 6.0
Manager).

2. In the center window of IIS Manager, click the connection > FTP Sites.

3. In the right window, click the item “Click here to launch”.

4. In the Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager window, expand the
tree, and right-click Default FTP Site, and then click Properties.

5. In the Default FTP Site Properties dialog box, configure properties, as required.

42600 On Vista SP1, when installing IIS and FTP for the ZQ or EMD mass detectors, the
related FTP Service does not start automatically when you reboot the operating
system, as it should.
To resolve this problem, configure the FTP Publishing Service to start automatically.
To do so, from Computer Management > Services, in the list of services, right-click
FTP Publishing Services, and then click Properties. In the Start up Type box, select
Automatic.

42610 On Windows Vista SP1, problems might be encountered when establishing

communications with a ZQ or EMD detector.
You must add the FTP Server to the list of Windows Firewall exceptions, and then
you can reboot and successfully establish communications with the ZQ or EMD mass
detectors.

42628 When using Empower on a Vista computer, when you start a new application
window, such as Validation Manager from the Project window, the Project window
remains the active window, and the Validation Manager window opens behind the
Project window.
Workaround:
In the Windows registry, modify the ForegroundLockTimeout registry key to be
Decimal, and enter a value of 0 (Microsoft KB886217).
See also: www.support.microsoft.com/kb/886217 for details.

42682 When creating a project in situations when the user tablespace cannot auto extend,
Empower might display the message “Error copying from project xxx”.

42800 When controlling an SQ, TQ, or 3100 mass detector on a workstation or acquisition
client, you must install Empower 2 (typical or custom installation) on the C drive of
that PC.
If you install Empower 2 on a drive other than the C drive, and you start an
acquisition, errors occur.

42850 Although the WebServer feature and references to it are active in Empower
software, this feature is unsupported in Feature Release 5.

42882 Using either LDAP or local authentication, if a user logs into Empower and receives
the message “Authentication Failed”, an incorrect password is the most common
reason for this problem. However, in LDAP mode, authentication can also fail for
any of these and other reasons:
 The user account was disabled or no longer exists on the LDAP server.

 The minimum number of password characters changed on the LDAP server.

 The user account underwent a department change, resulting in a change to the

user’s Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

42894 The “Database/Import MassLynx Data” option from the Empower Project window is
a legacy application that is not intended for importing MS data from mass detectors,
such as the SQ, TQ, and 3100 mass detectors, and other newer-model mass
detectors.
There are other data import capabilities available for importing more modern MS
data.

42978 In Method Validation Manager, the Korean translation of the word “Preparations”
changed from “Jun-bi” to “Si-yak”. This translation change impacts following
features of Method Validation:
 When you create a new Method Validation Manager project in Empower 2 FR5, do
not copy any custom fields from a project created in a previous version of
Empower 2. Doing so copies the old translation of the custom field name. If this
happens, you can manually change the translation of these values in the table in
the Project Properties Custom Fields tab.

 Although the Valid_OQMVM project contains the old translation for the Sample
Preparation custom field, the OQ runs correctly. However, the name of the
custom field and the custom field name that appears in the Method Validation UI
will differ.

43020 In Empower 2 Feature Release 5, when connecting an Empower node to a TQ mass

detector for the first time, the error message “An unnamed file contains an invalid
path” appeared. Click OK to close the message.
Empower establishes communication with the instrument and the message no
longer occurs.

43048 During an Empower 2 Feature Release 5 Client installation, the Windows Security
Alert message “Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this program” might
appear.
Click Unblock to continue the installation.

43072 When installing Waters Email Service on a Windows Vista Enterprise SP1 computer,
the Email Center registry keys were not installed correctly.
When installing the Waters Email Service, you must log in locally as Administrator.
On the program executable file, right-click, and then select Run as Administrator.

43125 In Method Validation online Help topics, the null hypothesis for Linearity Regression
ANOVA and Residual Linearity ANOVA is incorrect.
Correction:
 The null hypothesis for Regression ANOVA is that the model error is zero as
compared to residual error, or the linear regression is adequate.

 The null hypothesis for Residual ANOVA (lack-of-fit) is that the lack-of-fit error is
zero as compared to pure (random) error in replicates at each level, or the
residual error is pure (random) error.

43134 During the installation of Empower 2 FR5, multiple DOS windows that display
information might appear, and then disappear from the desktop.
When these windows display, do not press any keyboard keys or take any action in
these windows. Doing so might cause the installation to pause or slow down. If you
do any of these actions by mistake, press the Esc key on your keyboard.

43136 When you configure a 6890 instrument using both a GSV and an injector to inject in
the same position, the instrument method instructs the system to use the GSV to
inject.

43138 If you used Japanese characters in the Default (name) From field in the E-Mail
Policies, the Japanese Email Center did not send any email messages.
To prevent this problem, in the Configuration Manager Empower System Policies
dialog box, on the E-Mail Policies tab, if you specify an outgoing email server that
does not support Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or other such characters in a normal
email address or alias, do not use these characters in the Default Form Name field.
Otherwise, the Email Center might not deliver your email message correctly, or it
might not deliver it at all.

43160 You cannot run sample sets that specify Acquity vial position V:1 in the plate/well
column. Empower displays an error message indicating an invalid plate number.

43196 In the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean versions of Empower 2, the Waters Email
Service installation does not create the desktop shortcut correctly, using a partially
translated path to “Windows Desktop”.

43202 During installation, the Empower 2 Client Installer does not display its progress in
the Progress bar.

43239 To prevent database access problems, before you install Empower 2 Feature
Release 5, if your Administrator-level account contains any spaces in the name,
such as “rel lab”, you must add this user account name to the ORA_DBA Windows
User Group.

43316 A sample set using a ZQ instrument set with the Japanese version of Empower 2
Feature Release 5 in a Windows Vista environment might not run.
To resolve this problem, in Windows, modify the long date format to use the English
long date format “dddd, mm, dd, yyyy”.

43325 The ZQ2000, ZQ4000, and EMD1000 instrument calibration will not operate
properly on Windows Vista Japanese until the instrument driver can be revised.

43387 After upgrading from previous versions of Empower 2 to Empower 2 Feature

Release 5, when you log into Empower 2 Feature Release 5 for the first time, the
Message Center might display a warning message indicating that Oracle Error
00904 has occurred on the “INVALIDPASSATTEMPT” column. The Empower 2
Feature Release 5 upgrade process creates this column later in the process. This
message will not occur on subsequent logins.

43413 On a Vista Enterprise 32 bit system, when installing or removing an Acquity ICOP
(instrument control option pack), the progress bar indicator begins to fill, but then
appears to stop, and the Wizard page also appears as though it is not responding.
Do not cancel the operation because in most cases, the installation or removal
process is running. Check the status bar at the bottom of the window for activity,
and give the installation or removal process time to complete.

43430 After performing a server upgrade, when you run the batch script file that moves
the Index and Users files from the old database instance to the new database
instance, if these files already exist in the new database instance, A message
appears, informing you that these files already exist.
When this happens, you must manually delete the Index and Users files from the
new database instance, and then run the batch script file again to move the two
files from the old instance to the new instance.

43443 Some topics in the online Help contain references to an incorrect book title, due to
changes in the documentation set that occurred after the online Help was released.
Replace all references to the Empower 2 Upgrade and Configuration Guide, Rev. B
with the Empower 2 Feature Release 5 Upgrade Guide.

43496 When upgrading to FR5, during the database update, the time zone is missing from
the date/time stamps of Audit Trail entries recorded before the “Created Empower
Node” record. The time zone is also missing from the date/time stamp for the
database update messages in the Message Center.

43502 When you have multiple channels in Run Samples, then use Customize Channels
and deselect all of the channels, when you use the mouse to resize the channel plot
area, an MFC error occurs.
To avoid this problem, you must enable at least one real-time channel plot before
resizing any of the plot windows in Run Samples or in QuickStart.

43515 On Windows Server 2003, firewall settings are not automatically set for the
Watersservice installer.
Refer to the white paper entitled "Waters Configuration Notes for Empower 2
Enterprise Server on Windows 2003 Server SP1 and R2", Revision A, dated Aug 22,
2006.

43523 The Empower 2 Online Help does not include information for specifying the
minimum number of data points required to calculate any of the noise/drift results.
A minimum number of 30 data points must be included in the noise interval. When
examining the minimum interval necessary for data collected at 1 Hz to report an
Average Peak to Peak Noise value, 30 seconds is the smallest interval that will
generate a noise result.
You must specify a minimum number of points to avoid biasing the apparent noise
to low values by allowing the choice to result in the linear regression doing little
more than "connecting the dots" within the noise interval.

43525 When using Empower 2 Feature Release 5 on a Personal configuration running

Windows Vista Business with SP1 or a client configuration running Windows Vista
Enterprise, the Waters DHCP Server service randomly stopped working, and
displayed a message indicating that it stopped working and was closed.
You can restart the service, as needed.

43545 In Empower 2 Feature Release 5, when printing a report for a 6890 instrument
method, the System Information report group reports incorrect values for “Valve”.
This reporting error has no impact on the ability to acquire data nor the validity of
the data acquired.

43546 If the Personal installation process fails to load the UpdateDBUtils.dll when
preparing to import the exported TransportableTablesspaces, a message box
appears containing the resource ID identifier and this string:
W_RESTOREBACKUP_RETRY
The message box should display the following information:
The upgrade of your database to Empower 2 Feature Release 5 has not completed
successfully. Please permit the Empower 2 FR5 installation wizard to run to
completion. You will then need to uninstall Empower 2 FR5 using Add/Remove
programs. Once this is complete, you will need to restore your Empower database
backup into the appropriate version of Empower 2 and then upgrade to Empower 2
FR5.

43547 Windows Firewall exceptions might appear twice in the Windows Firewall Exceptions
list, after installing Empower 2 FR5 and Instrument Control Option Packs (ICOP).
This behavior is expected as a result of the fix for PCS 43485, which automatically
enables and maintains general Windows Firewall Exceptions for Empower 2 and
Ethernet instruments.
Do not remove the duplicate entries, as doing so might remove the required
Firewall Exceptions.

43548 In the Korean and Chinese versions of Empower 2 Feature Release 5 on a Vista
Client, when background printing a result using a default report method within the
Defaults project, some report fields either displayed small squares or appeared
blank. Information appeared correctly in Preview/Publisher.
Tip: This behavior occurred only on Empower 2 Workgroup and Enterprise. It did
not occur on Empower 2 Personal. This behavior also did not occur when selecting
the Report Method option “Use a Report Method that is appropriate for the data”.
This problem happens because the report method used for "background printing"
called "Default Individual Report" in the "Defaults" project uses the wrong font.
Workaround: Edit the Report method and change the English font to the correct
font for your language.

43554 In Empower 2 Feature Release 5, when you restore multiple files in one operation
while the Confirm Identify policy is set for projects, and you cancel the Confirm
Identity dialog box for one or more of those projects, the restored projects might
not contain any data or audit trail information.
You can delete these projects from Configuration Manager.

To successfully install the ICS, on the ICOP Utility disk, navigate to the Instrument
folder, and double-click setup.exe.

43559 In Empower 2 Feature Release 5 on a Citrix client, when copying and pasting a
library from the Libraries view in Configuration Manager, Configuration Manager
crashed. When copying a library from networked drive on the Citrix client, the
message "The user must have an LDAP user DN was not found" appeared. After
closing the message box, a "Copy in Progress" toolbar appeared, but nothing
happened.
You can import a library successfully from a Citrix client.

43564 After upgrading an Empower 2 Enterprise system to Empower 2 Feature Release 5,

the Waters Licensing Wizard might display the message “Invalid Option 23”.
This message is an artifact of the previous licensing strategy, and does not affect
system operations or the validity of installed licenses.

43565 Before upgrading an Empower 2 database server (Feature Release 4 and Service
Pack E) to Empower 2 Feature Release 5, used the Enterprise Edition key disk to
activate the Dissolution option. After completing the upgrade, used the Waters
Licensing Wizard to view the installed options. The Licensing Wizard listed the
Dissolution option as an Empower Workgroup instead of Enterprise Edition.
This problem is a display problem only that happens when viewing licenses in the
Licensing Wizard that were previously enabled using key disks.

43588 After upgrading an Empower acquisition client computer with installed drivers for
the ZQ2000, ZQ4000, EMD, and Trinity SQ, Trinity TQ, and 3100 mass detectors to
Empower 2 Feature Release 5, the Waters Service automatically starts and runs.
In order for the mass detectors to run correctly, you must disable the Waters
Service from within Windows Services. After you disable the Waters Service, reboot
both the computer and the embedded PC (EPC) in the mass detector.

GxP compliance requirements
When you install Empower Software for the first time, or when you uninstall software, Waters
recommends that you perform software qualification to meet GxP compliance requirements. Any time you
install or uninstall software in a GxP environment, Waters recommends that you follow your company’s
management-approved software change management standard operating procedures. To assist you in
making software change management decisions, refer to the section in this document that describes the
program file updates contained in this feature release.

To verify that the installation of this feature release does not affect any data, reprocess a data set before
and after you install the software, and then verify that the results are equivalent.

Waters recommends that you run either the Verify Files utility or the ConnectionsAQT for Empower IQ.
After you run one of these utilities, review the resulting file for an entry that states “No installation
changes were detected.”
