2019 INTERNATIONAL DAY

Celebration of the International Profile of Universitas Jambi

A. International Day

1. Background

Universitas Jambi (UNJA) is a public higher education institution who is committed to take active
role in developing national competitiveness through quality education. It envisions becoming a
global entrepreneurship university. Having been exposed to rapid expansion of economic, social,
and political globalization, UNJA realizes the need to connect with international world and feels the
challenges to upgrade the performance of the university to meet international standard and equip
both the students and the staff with global competence. In doing so, UNJA develops international
relations with foreign institutions and encourages as well as supports active participation of the
students and staffs in international activities. Until recently, UNJA has established academic
partnership with more than 20 foreign institutions residing on different part of the world. Majority,
cooperation between UNJA and foreign institutions focused on student and staff exchange
program, exchange of academic scholars, exchange of academic materials, joint research and
conference, joint supervision of graduate students, etc.

International day is an event designed to promote and celebrate the international profile of UNJA.
This event is presented in the form of creative and inspirational class. It focuses on foreign
education, international scholarship opportunities, international opportunities, and the importance
of global knowledge in today’s world. This activity is designed to encourage the students of UNJA
to be more aware of global issues and opportunities that they can get.

2. Objectives

The purpose of the event is to become the main event to promote and celebrate the international
profile of Universitas Jambi. With this in mind, the objectives are:

a. Promoting the international profile of Universitas Jambi;


b. Encouraging the students and staffs of Universitas Jambi to participate in international activities;
c. Increasing the global awareness of the students and staffs of Universitas Jambi; and
d. Attracting prospective students to study in Universitas Jambi.

3. Target Audience

The target audiences of the event are:

a. Students of Universitas Jambi;


b. Prospective students (senior high school students);

4. Topics of Creative and Inspirational Class/Seminar

The creative and inspirational class will focus on experience of becoming a part of global education
milieu. In this class/seminar, speakers will discuss about their experience of living and studying
abroad and the innovative program, event, or activity that they created back home as a result of their
experience abroad. The details of the discussion are as follow:

B Blended Learning: An Innovative Approach to Education

1) What is hybrid school?


2) What the rational and motivation to create a hybrid school?
3) What are the benefits?
4) How does it operate?
C Living an Studying Abroad

1) How do I get to join the program/to study abroad?


(In this session, speakers share a story and experience when they apply for the
program/higher education institution. If they join the program by scholarship, it is
expected that they share the process of selection for the scholarship. They should also
describe how to choose the right study program or department, the proper scholarship
scheme, or the reliable internship or exchange program)
2) Why do I join the program/study abroad?
(In this session, speakers share their motivation to join an internship/exchange program
or to study in the selected university. They will also share their expectation of joining the
program or studying abroad)

3) How do I survive there?


(In this session, the speakers will share their efforts and struggles to cope with visa and
immigration check point interview; inconvenient feeling of traveling overseas;
homesickness; and language, cultural, and currency differences
4) What do I see and learn from there?
(In this session, speakers will share their observation on things that they found fascinating
in their host country and institution, for example the building architecture, the urban
planning, the road and the traffic, the public transportation; the educational system, the
teaching and learning strategy, the teacher-student coordination and communication; the
culture in the neighborhood, the subjects they took; and the sense of kinship with friends
or hosting family. Learning from there is more about a reflection of the overall experience
of living and studying abroad. In this session, the authors will share their perception of
differences that they found between their home and host country/institution about the
above mentioned things. They will share their perspective of the good things in Indonesia
that they want to keep and the things they wish to change); and
5) How do I contribute?
(In this session, speakers will share an educational/community-based
project/event/program/activity that they perform based on their experience of living or
studying abroad. For example, teachers may design their syllabi and classroom activity
based on the ones that are applied abroad. A student may apply the work/studying ethic
that they learn from abroad).

B. The Organizer

The event is organized by International Office of Universitas Jambi and in collaboration with Ikatan
Mahasiswa Administrasi Pendidikan (IMADIKA), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education
UNJA. The organizational structure as follow:
