Raul N. Banias; Cong. Raul Tupas, 5th District Representative; and Governor
Arthur D. Defensor, Sr. of the Province of Iloilo.

Gov. Defensor remembered the time when PCPC Chairman Dr. Walter
W. Brown, first told him the intention to build a power plant in Concepcion
wherein he was gladden by the idea. He said that “the existing power plants in
Iloilo were not enough and PCPC assured us that the province will never experience
power inadequacy.”

Mayor Villanueva shared a story to the audience when he was asked during an
event where the LGU of Concepcion was awarded as one of the
Most Business-Friendly Municipality, ‘how can he effectively promote tourism
if there is a coal-fired power plant in his municipality?’ In which he
answered that “a coal-fired power plant can coexist with tourism
industry in the locality as long as the management is conscious of
the environment and committed to comply with the DENR standards.”

“Your victory today is the victory of Concepcion and its people,” Mayor
Villanueva said in his response.

Strategic Planning highlights visions for company, community

To develop a mini ecosystem where industrial development, the environment, the
people and the community can co-exist happily.
This was one of the corporate motivations that the management wanted to instill
to its people during its Strategic Planning and Workshop on July 31-August 1, 2017.
Heads of different departments and members of the Management Committee
participated in the 2-day event held at Eugenio Lopez Center, Sumulong Hi-way,
Antipolo City.

Ensuring the stability of the power plant and the safety of its personnel,
the PCPC Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Group conducted the annual
Preventive Maintenance Schedule (PMS) on the last quarter of 2017.

The 30-day planned outage is the second PMS conducted by PCPC. It

comprised of cleaning all the plant equipment, mainly focusing on the
critical ones such as the boiler, turbine, generator and transformer.
The O&M Group also held inspection of facilities and fine-tuning of the
controls that will help secure the reliability and efficiency of the power plant.

“The PMS plays a major role in the operation of the power plant. And we take
pride that the O&M and the Technical Group finished the PMS ahead of
time. We worked closely to prevent hazards and most especially, to
prevent unplanned outages of the power plant in the future,” Engr. Robee So,
Engineering Specialist for Instrumentation and Controls of PCPC, said.

With the capability of the Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion Technology and the sound environmental measures being
practiced in the power plant, PCPC maintained its excellent emission performance vis-a-vis the standards.

The Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) obtains data such as the Sulfur Oxide (SOx) in the form of Sulfur
Dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Particulates. This real-time monitoring is a requirement
of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
