The Great Leveler—The Pink Ball

Plenty of interest in Friday’s Day/Night Test Match between the Aussies and Pakistan as
per usual being a home town Adelaide Oval Test match. The intriguing part of this Test is
you can expect the game to change quite quickly as the time of the day changes with a
pink ball in use. Just recently the Pakistan bowlers wreaked havoc against Australia A
with the pink ball. Also of interest is the dual between Steve Smith and Yasif Shah who
dismissed Smith in Brisbane and gave him a 7 finger send off , that’s the amount of
times that Shah has claimed Smith’s much sought after wicket. Anyway Loz has the Test
Match insights all covered on page 3. Round 1 of
the AFL Draft is over but what really is the chance we will see the likes of a Sam
Walsh ,Connor Rozee or a Brodie Smith next season. Highly unlikely I would say at this
stage with players in Friday’s pre season and rookie draft having just the same chance to
prove their worth in season 2020. As expected the Gold Coast Suns drafted best mates
Matthew Rowell and Noah Anderson with their picks 1 and 2. With Port to continue the
draft selections on Thursday Night it will be most interesting who they take at pick 22 !!
Norwood’s Dylan Stephens and Westies Will Day have already been taken.

Could not resist this
Blast from the Past.
When today’s players
are not allowed to
participate in many
outside sports. Footy
Stars Neil Kerley and
Geoff Motley of the
day drove in a sport
that resulted in 12 fa-
talities at Rowley Park
over the years !!
Formular 1 Racing by Lucky Loc ..as enjoyed at Harry’s Bar
With the Brazilian race out of the way, Abu Dhabi is the last race on the 2019 Formula One Calendar before the circus
shuts up shop for the enforced summer break not to return until next year’s season opener in Melbourne 2020.
To sum up Lucky Loc’s prediction from the last race in Brazil in one world. Crazy…. and it delivered it in spades. It had it all,
crashes, retirements, competitive overtaking and safety cars conspiring to mix up the field.
The eventual winner Max Verstappen of Red Bull drove a perfect race to claim a well-deserved first win in Brazil, his 3rd
win of the year. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes came home 3rd and almost snatched 2nd at the finish line from Pierre Gasly of
Toro Rosso. Lewis was subsequently demoted off the rostrum by Carlos Sainz of McLaren after serving a post-race time
penalty fairly given for crashing into another competitor.
It was Gasly and Sainz’s first ever trip to the podium. Unfortunately for Sainz, he didn’t get to celebrate McLaren’s first
podium since 2014 until some 2 hours after the rowdy crowd had all but disappeared. Both Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and
Charles Leclerc crashed into each other and in an instant gave away any hopes of the famous red team making the podium
– in soccer speak an embarrassing own goal! The second Mercedes driven by Valtteri Bottas blew an engine thus he too did
not feature.
So Lucky Loc managed to pick 1 from the top 3. Like I predicted Brazil is a crazy race and betting is an inexact science!
On to Abu Dhabi, a twilight desert race not known to enthuse the fan but glitzy to look at on television once the lights are
switched on. First raced in 2009, the standard modern 5.5km circuit is built around the Yas Marina. The 55-lap race is not
typically known to produce very exiting races and is not considered a classic by many diehard fans. Double or triple your
usual bets to make the race interesting or get your friendly publican to serve up a few cold PINTS.
Onto the form guide. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes has won it 4 times including the last edition. To put their dominance in
to perspective, Mercedes collectively have taken 5 wins out of the 9 races held, and ominously those have been consecu-
tively won since 2014. Sebastian of Ferrari has won 3 all during his time with Red Bull and Kimi Raikkonen then racing for
the now defunct Lotus the only other driver to have won in Abu Dhabi.
Last years’ order was Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. For this years’ race it will be hard to bet
against the same names taking out the top 3 again. Given the rich form Max Verstappen is in at the very moment, my
smart money is on Max 1st, Lewis 2nd and Sebastian 3rd.
CYA at the next race in Melbourne 2020. In the meantime Have a great Xmas and New Year!

As enjoyed at all Hotels & Clubs
Especially at The Kensi …
As often happens in the current Cricket era
we live, there is always one or two players
under scrutiny for their positions in the Aus-
tralian team. After not making the most of
his chance in Brisbane, Travis Head is now
under pressure to keep his spot in the Test
side.
Having looked good in making 24 in the first
innings in Brisbane, Head was caught down leg-side off part-time spinner Haris Sohail - a
disappointing way to get out any time, let alone when you are under pressure for your
spot. With Burns, Warner, Labuschagne and Wade all passing fifty in the First Test, Head
is now the only batsman who could be dropped for the New Zealand Test starting in Perth
in a few weeks time.
Head has something to fall back on, his 72 in the first innings of the Adelaide Test last year
against India. It was made under extreme pressure against a quality Indian attack.
However it was a day Test and Head could find himself batting under lights against the Pa-
kistan attack, who will surely bowl better with the Pink Ball in Adelaide.
Pace bowler Mohammad Abbas surely has to get a run, while changes need to be made
in the top three in the batting order. Haris Sohail must surely be dropped, with Imam-ul-
Haq back in to open with perhaps Skipper Azhar Ali to move to three.
Nonetheless, the smell of an Adelaide Test match is in the air. It's should be a great
week, if you make it down to the Oval, enjoy yourselves!

What better Xmas gift for any

The 4 State tipsters above this line keep getting the job done !!
MR 7 # 4 Flying Sardine— Capable mare on her best day and
could well be a knock out chance in this . Hopefully does not
get dragged along in the net but flies the net on Saturday !!
MR 9 # 10 Morrissy—will be more comfortable getting around
the turn at the Valley, drawn to have the run of the race !!

BR 1 # 4 Dusty Tycoon— like the way this Tycoon went about

her business at the Sunshine Coast. Trainer Heathcote has a
pretty fair opinion of this filly so they won’t see her for dust !!
SR 9 # 12 Convinced— That’s the type of confidence we like
going into the Get Out Stakes. Jock Tim will just have to con-
vince him get away cleanly and rest will just happen by itself
for a horse of this calibre on the way up !!
AR 7 # 2 Zalmona— Certainly looks to have come on from his
nice first up run getting home well late. This race looks made
to order and ticks the vast majority of the winning boxes.
AR 8 # 4 Tongsai Boss— Not an easy race the Get Out Stakes
this week but this bloke is far better suited by the 1600 metres
on the outer track. Inform jock Todd will give him every chance

Saturday’s Race Form by “The Blues Bros”
Race 7—City of Marion Stakes—1200 metres—5.01 PM
1: Captain Punch: Darwin champ but has never looked the same horse on the green stuff.
Prepared to risk him.
2: Zalmona: Prepared to ignore first-up outing. Big weight drop. Quality sprinter who can
definitely win with an ounce of luck.
3: Go The Journey: Consistent galloper who generally races on speed. Barrier a definite dis-
advantage. Place might be best hope.
4: Nipperkin: Smart mare racing quite well. Worth an each-way ticket.
5: Arrow Lane: Tough sprinter who tends to bob up now and then without winning. Trifecta
chance
6: Karlovasi: Ordinary last week. Better this trip and significant weight drop but probably
still needs to lift to be a winning chance.
7: Tatoosh: Might sneak home into a place at odds.
8: Columbia: Been thereabouts and draw looks ideal. Definite chance.
9: Aiguilette: Promising galloper who knows where the line is. Right in this.
10: Benz: Hasn't been far away but reckon he's just about out of chances.
11: Miss Jane: Speedy mare and good at this trip. Rough place hope from the rails draw.
12: Regalo Do Gaetano: Promising galloper resuming. First try at this level but could meas-
ure up.
13: Ambleve: Shows promise but this is a steep class rise. Place chance.
The City of Marion Stakes was formerly the Sims Metal Plate and was run at Cheltenham
up until 1982 .Some outstanding horses have won the race –1976-77 Lipman, 1978 King’s

The Reds by Tubby on the Terrace . . . .
Riley McGree put a disappointing week off the pitch behind him with another stand out
performance in the Reds 3-1 win over Melbourne Victory last weekend. The Socceroos
under 23 captain, currently suspended from representing his country for disciplinary rea-
sons, now sits second on the A-League goal scorers list after netting twice, including a su-
perb solo effort in the second half to cement victory. United welcome bottom placed Wel-
lington Phoenix to Coopers Stadium on Sunday afternoon, who come off their first win of
the season and will be looking to maintain some momentum. Adelaide look in unstoppa-
ble form at the moment, creating numer- ous scoring chances with an attractive, fast
flowing style of play that is overpowering opponents, it's hard to see that changing this
week, get along if you can to support the boys. The Raccoon is on fire with his punting
tips, landing another same game multi last week, he is predicting the Reds will complete a
hat-trick of wins combined with a match total of over 2.5 goals.
Morphettville Chatter by Jimmy Olsen ….
Well very few jockeys start their careers by riding a winner with their very first ride. Well
that’s just what Libby Halliday achieved last Friday at Naracoorte aboard the Lee Creek
trained Atomic Wizard for a 2.5 length victory. One would have to say the future looks
quite bright for Libby !! You had to watch the replay to believe the Gordon Richards
trained Bold Star won the Ladbrokes 955 Challenge at the Valley . They just don’t win
from that position at the Valley and full credit to the horse and jockey Craig Williams.
Gordon’s recent results from his Victorian raids more than prove Adelaide horses can
travel over there and bring home the chocolates. That makes it six Melbourne Metro vic-
tories in recent times so there is a case for at least one Morphettville trainer happy to
stay here!! Then the dust had no time to settle in the Richards stable with two wins at
Headquarters. Then there is more the Magpie Chef was quickly booked to share the
taste of Gordon’s victory with his fellow trainers, etc.!! Peter Jolly was happy to see Mor-
vada return to the winners list last Saturday but the old saying you win some , you lose
some applied when Peter went fishing and left his favourite rod and tackle unattended
for a few seconds and a monster from the deep dragged the whole rig out of the boat
never to be seen again. Chris Bieg made it 7 Cups in 7 years of training when he
trained Wanted By All to win this years Clare Cup.That also bought up win num-
ber 100 as a trainer but whose counting !! Spare a thought for Ryan Balfour
and the connections of L’il Kontra at Bal- larat last Saturday , just when L’iL Kontra
looked likely to claim the lead she shifted out abruptly approaching the 100 metres
mark , regained her balance and flew yet again too late !! The worst kept secret at head-
quarters this week is that apprentice Kenny Lau is transferring to the Kenny Sweeney sta-
bles !!

Why men shouldn’t write advice columns ……………...
Dear Sir Les, I do hope you can help me . The other day I set
off for work , leaving my husband in the house watching TV.
My car stalled, then it broke down about 2 kms down the
road, and I had to walk back to get my husbands help . When
I got home , I couldn’t believe my eyes. He was in our bed-
room with the neighbours 19 year old daughter. I am 32 and
my husband is 34.We have been married for 10 years. When I
confronted him he admitted they had been having an affair
for six months. He won’t go to counselling and now I have
turned into a nervous wreck and need advice urgently . Can you please help Sincerely
Sheila.—Dear Sheila , A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by
a variety of faults with the engine. Maybe start by checking there is no muck in the fuel
line. If it is clear check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the intake manifold and also
check all grounding wires. If none of these solves the problem , it could be that the fuel
pump is faulty ,causing low delivery pressure to the injectors. I hope this really helps, Sir
Les.
Pinocchio, Snow White, and Superman are out for a stroll in town one day.
As they walk, they come across a sign: "Beauty contest to find the most beautiful wom-
an in the world..""I am entering" said Snow White. She comes out and they ask her,
"Well, how'd ya do?" First Place ," said Snow White .They continue walking and they see
a sign: "Contest to find the strongest man in the world..""I'm entering," says Superman.
He returns and they ask him,"How did you make out?""First Place ," answers Superman.
They continue walking when they see a sign:"Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the
world?" Pinocchio enters. After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes… "What
happened?" they asked. "Who the f--k is Robert Ripley ?" asked Pinocchio.
