Answers
(1) 11553

Step 1
According to the question,
Smaller addend + Larger addend = 14798

Step 2
It is also given that the larger addend is 8308 greater than the smaller addend. Therefore,
Smaller addend + (Smaller addend + 8308) = 14798

Step 3
Using the above relation, we can see that if we subtract 8308 from the sum, we should get the
double of the smaller addend.

Step 4
On calculating the above, we get :
2 × Smaller addend = 14798 - 8308
2 × Smaller addend = 6490
Smaller addend = 6490/2 = 3245

Step 5
Larger addend = Smaller addend + 8308 = 3245 + 8308 = 11553
Hence, 11553 is the larger addend.

(2) 16

Step 1
Let us rewrite this question as follows,
20% of 40% of 200 = 20% of (40% of 200)

Step 2
Now, let us first find value of (40% of 200),
40
(40% of 200) = 200 ×
100
= 80

Step 3
Now we can find value of 20% of (40% of 200) as follows,
= 20% of (40% of 200)
= 20% of 80
20
= 80 ×
100
= 16

(3) 21 cm

Step 1
It is given that the circumference (P) of the given circle is 3 cm more than thrice its diameter (D),
P = 3 + 3D

Step 2
We know, the circumference of circle is πD, where D is the diameter. Therefore,
⇒ πD = 3 + 3D
22
⇒ D = 3 + 3D
7
22
⇒( - 3)D = 3

Step 2
Now lets find sum of all available terms in top-left to bottom-right diagonal,
4 4 6 8 22
+ + + =
11 11 11 11 11

Step 3
Since it is given that sum of both diagonals are same, missing terms must be equal to different of
above two sum.

(5) 220

Step 1
If we observe the pairs of IN and OUT numbers carefully, we note that there is a pattern by which
each IN number gets converted into the respective OUT number:
11 × 8 = 88
26 × 9 = 234
22 × __ = ?
28 × 11 = 308
6 × 12 = 72
21 × 13 = 273

Step 2
We can see the numbers in the first row are multiplied with consecutive natural numbers starting
from 8. This clearly means that 22 will be multiplied with 10 to get the respective OUT number.

Step 3
The OUT result for 22 will be equal to 22 × 10 = 220.

(6) 58

Step 1

The position of Sara is 29 th from the left, which means there are 28 people standing before her.

Step 2

Her position is 30 th from the right, which means there are 29 people standing behind her.

Step 3
So, the total number of people standing in the row is 28 (left) + 29 (right) + 1 (Sara) = 58.

(7) P=100, Q=300, R=0.3

Step 1
The mouse takes 3 rounds of the field, which means it covers 3 times the perimeter of the field.
So, we will have to find the perimeter first.

Step 2
The perimeter of the field is equal to sum of its sides. So, Perimeter = 20 m + 20 m + 30 m + 30 m
= 100 m.
Hence, P = 100 m

Step 3
We are given that Q = 3 × P, or Q = 3 × 100 m = 300 m

Step 4
Also given that R = Q in kilometers, and Q = 300 m.
Since, 1 km = 1000 m, or 1 m = 0.001 km, we can say that 300 m = 0.3 km, which is the required
value of R.

(8) 1540

Step 1
The ratio of the stamps collected by Akshiti and Matthew at the end of the month is 77:92. Let the
number of total stamps collected by Akshiti and Matthew by the end of the month be 77x and 92x,
respectively.

Step 2
Now, the additional stamps collected by Matthew in one day = 160
This means, the new number of Matthew's stamps = 92x + 160

Step 3
On equating new ratios:
77x 77
=
92x + 160 100
77x 77
⇒ =
92x + 160 100
x 1
⇒ =
92x + 160 100
⇒ 100x = 92x + 160
⇒ 100x - 92x = 160
⇒ (100 - 92)x = 160
⇒ 8x = 160
160
⇒x=
8
⇒ x = 20

Step 4
Stamps collected by Akshiti = 77x = 77 × 20 = 1540

Step 5
Therefore, the total number of stamps collected by Akshiti is 1540.

(9) 576:1001

Step 1
Length of the first wall = 12 meters
Height of the first wall = 6 meters
Area of the first wall = Length of the first wall × Height of the first wall = 12 × 6 m 2

Step 2
Cost of the paint for the first wall is Rs. 40 per square meter.
Therefore, the cost of painting the first wall = Rs. 40 × 12 × 6

Step 3
Length of the second wall = 13 meters
Height of the second wall = 11 meters
Area of the second wall = Length of the second wall × Height of the second wall = 13 × 11 m2

Step 4
Cost of the paint for the second wall is Rs. 35 per square meter.
Therefore, the cost of painting the second wall = Rs. 35 × 13 × 11

Step 5
Rs. 40 × 12 × 6 576
Fraction of the costs of painting the first wall to the second one = =
Rs. 35 × 13 × 11 1001

Step 6
Therefore, the ratio of the costs of painting the first wall to the second wall is 576:1001

(10) 69192 km.

Step 1
According to the question, a train travels 93 km in one hour.

Step 2
Number of days in the month of October = 31

Step 3
Number of hours in one day = 24 hours

Step 4
Distance traveled by the train in the month of October = Distance traveled by train in one hour ×
Number of days × Number of hours in one day
= 93 × 31 × 24
= 69192

Step 5
Therefore, the total distance covered by the train in the month of October is 69192 km.

(11) 6 years

Step 1
There are 60 seconds in one minute, and 60 minutes in one hour, and 24 hours in one day. This
means that there are 60 × 60 × 24 = 86400 seconds.

Step 2
Let us first find the number of days remaining for Alisha to become eligible for voting.

Step 3
366772443
The number of days will be equal to = 4245.05 approximately.
86400

Step 4
4245.05
Since there are 365 days in a year, the number of years remaining will be equal to ,
365
which is equal to 11.63, or 12 years approximately.

Step 5
Alisha has 12 years remaining before she becomes eligible for voting, and the eligible voting age is
18 years, which means her present age is 18 - 12 = 6 years.

(12) 3

Step 1

If we notice the 1st and the 2nd picture, it can be seen that the number in the center is the sum of
the other four numbers.
10 + 11 + 18 + 10 = 49 and 18 + 17 + 8 + 14 = 57

Step 2

Therefore, the 3 rd picture should also follow this pattern,

? + 2 + 17 + 14 = 36
⇒ ? = 36 - 33
⇒?=3

(13) c. P = 2 × (50 + 25)

Step 1
We know that the perimeter of a rectangle is equal to the sum of all sides.

Step 2
Also, the opposite sides of a rectangle are equal. Hence, we have the sides of the given rectangle
as 50 cm, 50 cm, 25 cm and 25 cm.

Step 3
So, Perimeter = sum of sides = 50 cm + 50 cm + 25 cm + 25 cm
= 2 × 50 + 2 × 25
= 2 × (50 + 25)
Perimeter = 2 × (50 cm + 25 cm).

Step 4
So, option c. is the correct answer.

(14) d.

Step 1
We know that a perfect reflection is a flip over the line such that the object distance from the line is
same as the image distance from the line and the size of the image is equal to the size of the
object.

Step 2
Now, if we look at the all the options carefully, we will notice that the pair which shows such a
reflection over the line is:

Step 3
Hence, option d is the correct answer.
