1.2 Function
During normal gas-freeing procedures there is free venting through the device. If an ignition oc-
curs on deck outside the tank space, the gas-freeing covers filter element will prevent the pas-
sage of flame into the tank.
2.2 Operation
For opening of the gas-freeing cover removes the eyebolts except for one which has to be loos-
ened. Turn out the cover so the filter elements are free and tighten the remaining eyebolt to
keep the cover in open position and then the gas-freeing procedure can take place.
When the hydrocarbon vapours in the cargo tank has been reduced to less than 2% by volume,
the gas-freeing may take place at the cargo tank deck level (Reference is made to SOLAS 1974
regulation II-2/59.2.1).
After gas-freeing, the cover is closed and the eyebolts tightened.

After 6 months of operation, the valve shall be inspected to ensure proper function, and
if necessary be cleaned.
However, depending of the type of cargo and the quality of the inert gas we recommend
that the valve be inspected more often.
After further 6 months of operation, the valve shall be taken apart for a full overhaul, in-
spection and cleaning.
Disassembling.
1. Unscrew eyebolts Item 4 and the cover
Item 2.
2. Unscrew the screws Item 6 and remove
the retainer ring Item 5.
3. Pull out the filter element assembly
(Item 3, 8, 9,11, 11 and 12)
4. Unscrew the nut Item 8 and remove the
washer Item 9.
5. Remove the screw Item 10 and the wash-
er Item 11
6. Now the flame screens Item 12 is free.
CAUTION! During painting job on the deck, pay attention to the filter element

This report is a part of the instructions manual as required by IMO MSC/Circ. 677 § 4.3 and
should be kept on board.
The complete Laboratory Report and test data is on file with Danish Institute of Fire and Security
Technology, CE Notified Body.
1 Corrosion test The corrosion test was carried out on a test rig shown on draw-
ing no.: 1150-5.
The test result was to the satisfaction of the Notified Body
2 Hydraulic pressure test The hydraulic pressure test was carried out on a test rig shown
on drawing no.: 1150-6.
The test result was to the satisfaction of the Notified Body
3 Flow test The flow test was carried out on a test rig shown on drawing
no.: 1150-8.
The test results appears from the inserted flow curve
4 Flash-back test The flash-back test was carried out on a test rig shown on
drawing no.: 1150-12.
In no cases did flash-back occur
5 Ice test The ice test was carried out on a test rig shown on drawing
no.: 1150-7.
The valve was cooled to freezing conditions hereafter the
valve was check-lifted end it was seen that the valve was fully
operative
