"Distributing Contraceptives in Schools"

Contraceptives or birth control has been an issue in the Philippines wherein assigned
government officials first targeted high schools to distribute their products. Medical Dictionary
defines contraception as interfering with the normal process of ovulation, fertilization and
implantation. It seems the rate of teenage pregnancy and number of infected disease which is
HIV/AIDS is outrageously seeking for solution. Therefore, the Department of Health (DOH)
came up to the strategy of distributing contraceptives in high schools such as condoms are
mostly given to students. Through the help of this method, early pregnancy would be prevented
and may decrease the rate of HIV/AIDS in the community especially the younger ones.
Contraceptives are the nation's hope to save current and future youth. It could be established to
provide knowledge for students to learn the possible effects of engaging premarital sex without
the use of condoms.

There are many things that can help students and their parents to understand why
distributing contraceptives are better solution for this issue. The tendency rate of sexually
transmitted disease would lessen with the help of sex education, beforehand the distribution of
contraceptives, the workers in-charge of it will first teach students about sex education to help
them understood the effects that it could bring to their life but it can also increase the premarital
sex rate for high school students. Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Education
(DepEd) and its project- distributing contraceptives and sex education may be the effective
strategy to HIV/AIDS may come to an end. It can also lessen the rate of HIV/AIDS because
they already know how to prevent or lessen the tendency to have the diseases but there are still
variables that can increase the rate of the said disease. Population of teenagers who is out of
school don't have the knowledge on how to prevent it and its effect to them. The last good effect
of contributing contraceptives is the prevention of early pregnancy but like the other good effect
it can also have its opposite such as an added temptation or may increase sexual activity as
norms among teenagers. But like the other problems of our country there are some who are in
favor of this action such as the church, they are the first organization who responded negatively

to the proposition of the DOH. Some of their reasons are this action can lead into disobeying the
law of the church, where in everyone or everything should have the rights to live.

Distributing condoms are not encouraging the youth to do the risky behavior but to give
knowledge on how to avoid possible harm that may lead after the action was taken. We have
concluded that giving up contraceptives to students can cause a whole lot benefits such as the
decrease rate of students who are vulnerable to HIV with the help of their programs such as Sex
education. This would have been a great start on widening the social relationship and social
philosophy of the students.
