Life and Works of Rizal
September 20, 2019
Activity:
1. Fully functioning person- Carl Rogers (1961, p.183) claimed “the concept of the
fully functioning Perso0n, it was an attempt to spell out the picture of the person
who would emerge if therapy were maximally successful” This fully function person
as Carl Rogers (1961) described is a person who is in touch with his deepest and
innermost feelings and needs. The individual understands their own emotions and
place a deep trust in their own instincts and urges. “Unconditional positive regard”
plays an essential role in becoming a fully functioning person.
Healthy Personality- According to Sidney Jourard, healthy personality is a way
for a person to act, guided by intelligence and respect for life, so that the person
will grow in awareness, competence, and the capacity to love the self, the natural
environment, and other people.
4.
The eye can possibly symbolize a healthy personality; in fact, the eyes do
provide lots of information about another person’s emotional state. We can
easily say if one person is having a healthy personality through his or her
eyes. An eye has an interconnection to healthy personality because like
an eye it cannot hide what is true.
Dr. Jose Rizal was really a great influence to the youth because of his
wide influence and outstanding achievements. I can say that he have the
characteristics of a fully functioning person because he chose to sacrifice
his own life for the nation’s freedom in which he have a sense of freedom
to make choices without constraints or inhibitions. He does not feel
compelled to sacrifice his own life. This characteristic is called freedom of
choice, without inhibition.

Activity:
guided by intelligence
respect the life of others
awareness to all experiences
competence
capacity to love the self and the natural environment
3. Respecting other people’s life and opinion can ensure the development of the
other healthy personality characteristics because respect is the sense of worth or
personal value that you attach to someone. Respect is a positive view that you
form of how someone is living their life; self-respect is your view of how you’re
living your life. Respecting yourself means giving and defining your own worth
and value as a human being.
5. The line in the lyrics of “The Greatest Love of All” that can possibly define us
an ideal Filipino citizen is “If I fail, if I succeed, At least I live as I believe” we, as a
person having a healthy personality are the one who are competent and capable
to strive hard for us to achieve our goals no matter how hard the situation and no
matter how it takes. As an ideal Filipino like Dr. Jose Rizal, we should also have
the courage and determination to make a change even in our own little way.
Integration:
I realized that, respecting other people’s life and opinion can ensure the
development of the other healthy personality characteristics because respect is the
sense of worth or personal value that you attach to someone. We, Filipinos are good in
socializing which means, we can easily get along with the people we want to talk to.
Resulting, we can build a strong foundation if respect and good communication is there.
Activity:
1. Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Disorganized
Sensitive
Not comfortable of taking risks
Therefore I conclude that there are still differences between strengths and
weaknesses between me and my classmate. But as we go farther there
are some instances that my classmate’s strengths and weaknesses are
the same. Like for example, family, friends and loved ones.

4. 10 Rizalian Values
Love of God
Purity and Idealism
Noble Conduct
Love of Fellowmen
Love of Parents
Charity
Love of Country
Courage
Will-Power
Honesty
These are the values that I have to learn in order to increase my chances of
becoming a good Filipino citizen. We need to be God-fearing and pray what is best for
many, we should be kind and considerate to our fellowmen, like Rizal, our actions,
thoughts and behavior are according to what is ethically right. Great and unconditional
love was given to parents, we should appreciate their sacrifices. Jose Rizal has this
value of love of country which means we should not doubt to take risk even in our own
little way.
5. Values influence Personality Formation
6. Case Analysis
b) Senator Luz thinks that Senators and Congressmen should not be given
“Pork Barrel Funds”. More than 100 congressmen think that they should be
given their full 570-million “Pork Barrel Funds” which they say they will use
for the development of their district/province/city.
Noble Conduct will lead to this way; it is about balancing what is true and
what is not. It is about purity of action and thoughts. Clean behavior
requires that religiousness be shown in good conduct, clean conscience
and upright thinking.
c) John believes that finishing college degree is not important.
Courage, John do not believe of what he can do. He does not have the
courage to pursue his dreams. He can’t be an ideal Filipino citizen
because of less courage that he has.
d) Felipe believes that Filipinos are inferior to Americans.
It is about love of country, we should be like Rizal, and dedication to one’s
duty was an admirable virtue of him. In saying that it is man’s duty to seek
his own perfection, Rizal set an idea for man to attain.
e) Don Placido’s yardstick for success is the size and number of bank
accounts that one keeps and the beauty and number of lovers that one has
in his “harem”
There is no measurement for success; it is about how you challenge
yourself on how you will get to the top. It is about will-power, if you have
the will to achieve your goals or you have the determination nothing is
impossible. Size and number cannot be a measurement of success.
Integration:
I realized that, we need to be God-fearing and pray what is best for many, we
should be kind and considerate to our fellowmen, like Rizal, our actions, thoughts and
behavior are according to what is ethically right. We can be like him if we want to, it is
about the determination and willingness to do what is right.
I resolve that, values do really influence the personality formation in a way that it
taught us to be an ideal Filipino citizen. Parental/Cultural teachings had great influence
on our holistic personality. Additionally, those values have negative and positive impact
on our lives in a way on how we will act according to what is wrong or what is right.
