Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The Kahoot quiz activity will ensure full participation in the classroom, including all students and allowing for
individual feedback. Kahoot can help hearing-impaired students because it offers text and visuals to help
these students follow along with hearing peers. While teachers can read the questions and responses aloud,
students with visual impairs may need help from a buddy or teacher to click on their own answers. When
creating the Kahoot, teachers can include many forms of representation to help students understand the
material and questions. This activity will keep students engaged because it is set up like a game, but it is truly
an assessment that can be formative or summative that teachers can use to evaluate individual and class
progress/understand on the topic.

Prior to the activity, the students will learn about musical notation, formal structure, and vocabulary in music
class and with their teacher. The students will learn from YouTube videos, slides with notes, textbooks, and
from online articles. The teacher will teach students to understand the meanings of the musical notation,
structure, and vocabulary through hands-on activities with small musical instruments and clapping/patting.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☒ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
The students will respond to questions the teacher has created in an online quiz format prior to the activity.
The students will check their knowledge on the subject as anonymous feedback is displayed for teachers and
students to see after each question to evaluate the level of understanding in the class as a whole. The teacher
will monitor the quiz and after each question choose to go over any misconceptions or answer any questions
students may have. Materials needed are a large display screen so students can read the quiz questions and
smart phones, tablets, or computers so each student can answer questions individually. The activity lasts
about 5-10 minutes and can be extended if the teacher takes time to go over missed questions and brush
over the content from the lesson.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
I want my students to know if their response was correct or not immediately so they can correct that
knowledge as soon as possible. I also enjoy being able to go over the answers with the whole class to make
sure we are all on the same page with the information of the subject.

After the activity, students will extend their knowledge of music and apply this knowledge to playing
instruments, such as recorders. The students could create their own Kahoots to study with peers and share
with the classroom. The students may be formatively assessed at the end of the unit by the teacher to move
on to the next unit.
How will the data be used? At the end of the quiz, the teacher can have the feedback of the class and all
individual data to see how each student performed. For this activity, I would grade the students on
participation. While taking the quiz, the students will know how many questions they have missed as they
answer, so they will know the information they struggle with. As a teacher, I will make sure these students get
extra help in these areas and put students in groups that may be struggling with the same content and I will
go over the content again using other activities to ensure comprehension.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I hope that this activity will help students learn that
assessments can be fun and it is important to frequently check what we know. I want my students to know
that doing this helps us grow and get better. I think this activity will help keep all students engaged and
excited to grow their learning outside of the activity.

Reflective Practice: I will continue using this tool as a summative assessment to see how my students are
grasping the concepts and information I am teaching. I will extend the lesson by adding in audio or clips of my
students applying what they have learned to create their own music on recorders or other instruments. As we
move on to the next unit, I will use these audio and video clips to create new questions and spark interest in
my students.
