INTRODUCTION

The main objective of civil engineering is to satisfy the needs of a specific society,
since the civil engineer is in charge of planning and carrying out large projects whose
purpose is to improve the quality of life of people, which directly involves the
infrastructure of a city that at present is of vital importance due to the constant
developments in which society is submerged.

At the same time it is one of the careers with greater field of action and importance
in the progress of cultures, is in charge of the planning, projection, building and also
operation of civil works such as housing, hospitals, schools, office buildings, works
for transport systems, as well as hydraulic works that meet the needs of the
population and improve their living conditions considering a rational management of
the environment.
MOTIVATION

Many people, men and women, at some point in their lives wonder themselves
questions like: "What do I want to be in my future? ". This was one of the questions
that became one of my concerns when I was only 14 years old. I always wanted to
know how I could help improve the quality of life in my country. One day, observing
my strengths, I made the decision to study Civil Engineering. Civil Engineer, in the
exercise of his profession, has the ability to generate development and welfare to
society, it is also the career with the greatest projection for the socioeconomic growth
of the country, these were the reasons why I had to begin to solve my concern.

On the other hand, I have always been interested in the wonderful contributions that
the great civil engineers have left to our country. An example of this is the
construction of the port of Barranquilla that was launched in 1936, here we can see
that in a need of a community, the civil engineering is presented to solve this need.
All of this is what motivates me to talk about this important issue, which is the impact
of civil engineering on society.
CONTENT

Today we are witnessing how society has been evolving in great strides through
technology, and that thanks to it we have obtained comfortable benefits that have
facilitated the development of our lives.

In addition, we can say that for this to be achieved, the hand of man has played a
very important role; if the hand of man had not involved, the society would have not
evolved, because he has been concerned with developing tools that are useful in
daily life, and he knows how to implement them in his various activities, which we
can see reflected in our context.

On the other hand, we must know that the building of infrastructures brings a series
of impacts, which are direct and indirect and also in an induced way that, depending
on these factors, their functionality, adaptation, cost and benefits will be positive or
negative.

In addition, we can see that when carrying out new infrastructures, the space where
are developed the economic, social and recreational activities of the people are
affected, indirectly altering their ways of life, having as consequence, the affectation
to the frame of life and the habits of the base society of these constructions. Thus
beginning a process of transformation that is completely dynamic, but always
irreversible, or in most cases, at least unlikely to rebuild.

These impacts can be very positive or negative depending on the ethics, morality
and responsibility of the civil engineer, since the attitude is everything when
developing a work, which reflects creativity and the desire they put ... What does this
mean? ¿Do they care that the work is well done? Or do they care more about
money? It is a paradox.

From my point of view there are 2 types of civil engineers in terms of ethics, I would
call them: the right ones (the ethical ones) and the wrong ones (the unethical ones),
but you will say, ¿What is the relationship between ethics and society? Very easy,
ethics plays a very important role in a civil engineer when trying to communicate with
society. how? Let's look at the case of the "ethical engineers"; generally when a civil
engineer executes a project and they are going to verify the area to be carried out
the work, they study the land, if they find something like an archaeological complex,
because the civil engineer will need an anthropologist who knows about these
subjects; and if society agrees or not with the building work, then the engineer will
need a social expert to study social work to convince people and reach an
agreement, here we see professional ethics. But if we talk Of the unethical
engineers, do you think they would be kind enough to go to a sociologist specialist?
Of course not, they just think in your pocket for your convenience, for your profit; with
his famous phrase “put him no more”, do they think about the benefits or the
problems that his work can cause?

There come the moral problems that arise professionally in Civil Engineering; such
as corruption within the companies, in the building companies, where you can see
how the company corrupts the civil engineer's hand by allying both in order to use
poor quality materials for building, alluding that they are good quality materials,
without thinking about the terrible damage that this dirty game can produce. Only for
the purpose of profit, to reduce costs or to reduce essential materials for economic
purposes without thinking about the damage that could be caused to the community.
So when a professional is wrong, it can result in the death of a human. When a civil
building collapses, the result, almost certainly, is the death of hundreds of humans.
Is this what we want?

On the other hand, we have that the environmental crisis represents one of the most
important challenges facing today's society, but we know that the process of social
transformation is linked to the pace of construction, for example: improvements in
health are related to a improvement in construction (an infrastructure envelope) like
an A1 hospital, so we must change the current development model?

Before, civil engineers did not have an environmental education like the current one,
which resulted in the construction of many works excessively without taking into
account factors of great importance, thus generating an environmental impact that
caused serious damage to society. We should establish dissemination campaigns
through the media, not only for engineers or technical personnel involved in the
design and construction of works, but for the whole society as a whole, since it is
also important to achieve a greater level of awareness of all, thus generating new
habits that help improve our environment and, consequently, our quality of life. Even
as a university student, I plan to act responsibly and with great care in this regard,
so as not to contribute further to environmental deterioration, to provide my service
to society in an ethical and professional manner. I believe that every civil engineer
builds his professional prestige in a slow way, since upon graduation from the
university the student will decide whether to do between good and evil within the
ethical and moral; This set of values makes ethics and morals the basis of its future.
Having the principle of improving more and more, improving ourselves, training
ourselves, exercising our profession and there is nothing more beautiful than sharing
our knowledge with society, developing a sense of responsibility and service.

The right action of the engineer should not be understood as the consequence of
complying with the laws and the fear of punishment imposed on those responsible
for errors that generate great damage, but should focus on acting with respect to the
person and their integrity, society and their surrounding environment. The civil
engineer must practice his profession keeping in mind that he must serve society
primarily, is that not true? The engineer must think about putting all his effort to
achieve the improvement of the standard of living of the society, so he must be
trained and have a broad knowledge of his region according to his characteristics,
willing to assume the tasks assigned to him at his service All that knowledge and
professional capacity.
CONCLUSION

Social impact is understood as those fundamental factors of the transformations that

are triggered by the construction of a civil engineering project or infrastructure on the
social space, that is, on the territory where productive activities and ways of life
crystallize.

A civil engineer will always be useful in any society, If the civil engineers had not
been, the countries would not have developed in the field of infraestructure. since he
is in charge of planning and carrying out works that contribute to improving the
quality of life of human beings, transforming a certain space and taking advantage
of their resources. Civil engineering demands a lot of importance at the social level.
To complete any building or contract undertaken by a civil engineer requires delivery,
responsibility, order, criticism of everything that has been planned to be carried out.
In conclusion, the civil engineer plans building, builds dreams and fantasies in all his
labor and social integrity.
