PSIII Final Report – Jessica Hemstreet

Jessica Hemstreet has been completing her PSIII at Father Leonard Van Tighem School under the mentorship of Mr. John
Templin. Jessica teaches English Language Arts, Science, Math, and Physical Education to a Grade 1 class.

One of the skills that Jessica possesses is an ability to plan and prepare for her lessons. Jessica created daily lesson plans
and long-range plans. Her plans include the essential components of setting student learning objectives and assessing
those objectives. In addition to these essential components Jessica effectively planned her lessons by including a set
induction, having structured activities, key questions, and a summary.

Jessica has many skills as a teacher. She communicates the lessons that she has planned very clearly. Jessica’s very good
planning is taught in a clear and structured manner. She delivers her lessons using a variety of instructional
methodologies including hand-on activities. She also effectively uses technology in her lesson, specifically use of Smart
Board technology. By using a variety of instructional methodologies, Jessica was able to successfully engage students.
Jessica uses her classroom learning environment in an effective manner. Just as Jessica sees the importance of opening
lessons with an objective, she also provides appropriate closure in the form of a summary.

Jessica established ownership in her classroom. She soon assumed the leadership role of the teacher, not only in her
classroom, but also within the school. She showed initiative in assisting in school activities, both curricular and co-
curricular, throughout her PSIII experience. Jessica was active in school functions, including co-curricular by coaching
Grade 6 Volleyball, being involved in Jr. High Track and Field, helping out our scrapbooking club, and assisting at Jr. High
Awards Night. Also, she visited and assisted in other classrooms. By assuming these leadership experiences, she quickly
developed positive relationships with her students. This positive relationship helped her to establish effective classroom
management. When misbehavior of student did occur, Jessica took ownership of the situation and worked through an
effective process to solve the problem.

Throughout her practicum Jessica effectively used assessment techniques to improve student learning. Jessica keeps
accurate records of her summative assessments and she also includes formative assessment practices in her lessons.

Jessica always presented herself in a truly professional manner. She fulfilled all her responsibilities on staff. She became
an active member of our learning community. Jessica was able to develop good relationships with our staff. Jessica was
able to do some co-teaching with one of her peers. After classroom observations Jessica was very willing to discuss areas
of improvement and worked to improve her instruction and grow as a new teacher.

Jessica Hemstreet has many gifts as a student teacher. She will be a successful teacher. She has all the essentials in her
teacher “tool kit” to succeed in her professional career.

Respectfully yours,

Greg Kostiuk
