Introduction to Pharma Industry :

Drug abuse is becoming a serious problem in India. Thanks to the easy availability of
various addictive substances and inadequate control, drug abuse has assumed an alarming
proportion both in the urban and rural areas. Fast-growing unemployment in rural India
and the outgoing personality of the average Indian have given a boost to the problem.
Many research workers, social scientists and religious organisations have been regularly
pointing towards the rising incidence of alcohol and drug abuse.
My project report is based on Analytical and Survey Study through questionnaire. The
study deals with the comparative study of various Pharmaceutical Companies that deals in
manufacturing commonly used drugs like Antibiotics, Antifungal, Topical Steroids etc.
The study is related to study their average sales in comparison with each other, their
schemes and brand loyalty of customer.
Besides the study also gives graphical representation for these companies based on the
information gathered from some of the dealers chosen for this very study.

Pharmaceutical Industry : An Introduction

Pharmaceuticals are medicinally effective chemicals, which are converted to dosage forms
suitable for patients to imbibe. In its basic chemical form, pharmaceuticals are called bulk
drugs and the final dosage forms are known as formulations. Bulk drugs are derived from
4 types of intermediates (raw material), namely :
• Plant derivatives (herbal products)
• Animal derivatives e.g. Insulin extracted from bovine pancreas.
• Synthetic Chemicals.
• Biogenetic (human) derivatives e.g. Human Insulin.
Doctors, post-diagnosis to cure a disease or disorder in the patient primarily prescribes
formulations. To prevent misuse/incorrect administration, most formulations are disbursed
by pharmacies only under medical prescription and these are called ethical products.

Indian Pharmaceutical Industry :

The Indian pharmaceutical industry is highly fragmented but has grown rapidly due to the
friendly patent regime and low cost manufacturing structure. Intense competition, high
volumes and low prices characterize the Indian domestic market. Exports have been rising
at around 30% CAGR over last five years. There is a shift in export profile towards value
added formulations from low value bulk drugs.
The Drug Pricing Control Order (DPCO) has been the millstone around the neck of Indian
industry as it has severally restricted profitability and hence innovation. However, the
government has been relaxing controls in a slow but progressive manner. The span of
control of DPCO has come down as per the latest proposed changes.
In the domestic market, old and mature categories like anti-infectives, vitamins, analgesics
are degrowing or stagnating while new lifestyle categories like cardiovascular, CNS, anti
diabetic are growing at double-digit rates. The growth of a company in the domestic
market is thus critically dependent on its therapeutic presence.

Marketing of Pharmaceutical Industry in India:

The Indian Pharmaceutical Industry is a vibrant, high technology based and high growth
oriented industry - attracting attention the world over for its immense potential to produce
high quality drugs and pharmaceutical formulations. The Pharmaceutical Industry is
among the most highly R&D intensive industries. In fact, other than drug discovery,
marketing has been the most important function in the pharmaceutical industry.
The pharmaceutical marketing environment is perhaps the most challenging one on the
Indian industrial scene today. As it approaches a new millennium it is faced, on the one
hand, with new opportunities and new prospects, and on the other, with the emergence of a
radically ordered pharmaceutical order.

Describe research was adopted.

RESEARCH METHODS:-

I will prefer interview and filling of questionnaire to ensure and courage frank response to the
question. While framing the questionnaire I will try to list a series of question , which can provide
me the needed information . for study purpose I also keep isn mind the respondents understanding
capacity , ability to recall the information and his experience limits. I will not include those
questions which can have misconceptions and promote non-co-operation.

SOURCE OF DATA :-

Source of data is classified in to two categories :

a). Primary data

b). Secondary data

A) PRIMARY DATA :-

Primary data do not exist in records and publication .The researcher has to gather primary
data fresh for the specific study under taken by him. Market researcher are interested in
primary data about demographic / socio economic characteristics , attitude , opinions /
interests , motivation and behavior . three basic means of primary data :

1. Observation
2. Survey
3. Experiment
SECONDARY DATA

Exploratory research is often secondary research such as reviewing available data and
analyzing the current situation

Data is been extracted through secondary sources such as web , journals, relevant books
etc. In this research , company financials , charts and graphs are been extracted from
various web sources such as Equity masters. Money control , IBEF and stock exchange
websites.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION :

For getting the results of my reerch I used method which is questionnaire method that is under

in paper to a demographic to gather gather information in order to provide better service or goods
Pharmaceutical Sector Analysis
 The Indian pharmaceuticals market (IPM ) accounts for approx. 1.4% of the global
pharmaceuticals industry in value terms and 10% in the volume terms . The IPM is
valued at Rs. 85 lacs for the year ending March 2018 . The growth in 2018 stood at
12.9% . owing to robust historical growth and future prospects , many MNC
companies have active presence in the Indian pharmaceuticals space .

 The IPM is highly Fragmented with about 1200 players ( 330 is organized sector ).
The market is dominated majorly by branded generics , which constitutes nearly
70% to 80% of market.

 The year gone by was one where M&A activity continued to attract interest of the

Companies globally . this included many indian names too. Indian companies such
as lupin , cipla , dr. reddy’s and other also showed keen interest. Lupin announced
a mega deal worth uss 800 m for acquiring gavis. On the other hand , Cipla and Dr.
Reddy’s too made acquisitions in the US and India respectively.
FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS
Fundamental analysis of a business involves analyzing its financial statement and health , its
management and competitive advantage , and its competitors and markets . when applied to future
and forex , it focuses on the overall state of the economy , interest rates , production , earnings ,
and management . when analyzing a stock , future contract , or currency using fundamental
analysis there are two basis approaches one can use ; bottom up analysis and top down analysis .
The term is used to distinguish such analysis from other type of investment analysis , such as
quantitative analysis and technical analysis .

Fundamental analysis is performed on historical and present data , but with the goal of making
financial forecasts . There are several possible objectives :

 To contract a company stock valuation and predict its probable price evolution
 To make a projection on its business performance.
 To evaluate its management and make internal business decision .
 To calculate its credit risk .

Fundamental analysis includes:

1. Economic analysis
2. Industry analysis
3. Company analysis

On the basis of this three analysis the intrinsic value of the shares are determined. This is
constructed as the true value of the share . if the intrinsic value is higher then the market price it is
recommended to buy the share but if is equal to market price hold the share and if it is less then
the market price sell the shares .

VALUATION OF STOCK :

We have considered only large cap stocks from pharma sector ( company having market
capitalization 500 crore rupees ) for investment purpose . Then we can decide whether stock is
undervalued based on sectorial P/E ration . is P/E ratio of the company is less then sectorial P/E
ratio , then stock is considered undervalued else it is overvalued.
VALUE PICKS:-

After valuation of stocks and bifurcating them into undervalued and overvalued stocks , to pick
value stocks we consider undervalued stocks only. Then we check whether EPS of these stock is
increased or not compared to last year performance . If EPS is increased , then we consider it as
value pick for portfolio.

From table , we can see that there is EPS growth for stocks Lupin , Cipla , Piramal enter, Torrent
Pharma , glen mark , Biocon , Ajanta pharma , Alembic pharma , Sanofi India hence we selected
them as value stocks .
LONG TERM PRICE TARGET:-

Long term price gives investor idea till which point he/she should hold the share. Long term price
Target is product of sectorial P/E of company . Sectorial P/E we have calculated in table . here in
the following table we have considered price considered market price .

So this gives investor a that which point they should sell the value stocks in which they invested
their money . Investors can calculate their approximate profit using and compare it with their
expectation . it gives rough idea whether the stock in which they are investing will fulfil their
expectation or not.
GROWTH PICKS :-

For selecting growth picks we consider overvalued stocks only. Then we calculate PEG ratio for
each stock . If PEG ratio is below 1 then we take it as growth stock in our portfolio.

So , from PEG Ratio calculations in above table we can see that for Pfizer PEG is below one so
ideally Pfizer should be selected as growth pick . But Natco Pharma has negative P/E hence it is
discarded, while stock of Abbott India have PEG more then 1 hence not considered in our growth
pick portfolio .
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

Despite all the fancy and exotic tools , it employs , technical analysis reality just studies supply
and demand in a market in an attempt to determine what direction , or tend , will continue in the
future . In other words , technical analysis attempts to understand the emotions in the market by
studying the market itself , as opposed to its components . is you understand the benefits and
limitations of technical analysis , it can give you a new set of tools o skills that will enable you to
be a better trader or investor.

Technical analysis also extensively use indicators . which are typically mathematical
transformation of price of volume . These indicators are used to help determine whether an asset
is trending and if is . its price direction .

Technicians seek to forecast price movements such that large gains from successful trades exceed
more numerous but smaller losing trades , producing positive returns in the long run through
proper risk control and money management .

Technical Analysis is of two Types :

1. Short Term Analysis : Based on candle sticks

2. Long Term Analysis : Based on line graph
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

1. The study is limited only to pharmaceutical sector and only huge cap companies .

2. I have visited only 2 technical tools to predict the movement scripts.

3. Fundamental Analysis is used to analyze only financial performance of the companies.

4. Only technical analysis is used to predict the stock prices of the companies .
RECOMMENDATION

Within the short term, pharma company should focus on making more efficient and availability
to their customers. This would help combat their tough competition as well as their declining
sales. The company can also focus on improving their online ordering procedures. In addition,
pharma company also improve their strategies of medicine delivery. In the long run, medicine
should focus on improving their customer base, which would increase their market share. They
could also look into making new products specific to the location of the store as well as adding
more variety to their menus with the changes and preferences of their customers.

 The pharma company to be competitive in market for their own establishment.

 The pharma company should increase its quality .
 The pharma company should provide good customer services and facility.
 The pharma company should reduce its charges .
 The pharma company have to expand its delivery area .
 pharma company should improve the quality of the medicine and increase the visibility in
the market, & Should try to regain the trust of the Customer services.
CONCLUSION

Equity research is important for every investor in order to do investment . relative valuation model
is simplest method for fundamental analysis . Also, one can use long term and short term
technical analysis along with fundamental analysis . Calculating long term target price investor
can achieve
term and short term technical analysis along with fundamental analysis. Calculating long term
target price investor can achieve maximum profit and they also get an idea for how much
period they should hold the stock. Sectoral mutual fund of power sector and mutual fund
consisting of diverse sectors will give idea about how the mutual funds NAV are calculated
and their performance is analyzed with respect to market. If mutual fund is outperforming
market, it indicates that stocks selected in portfolio are good. From this report we can conclude
that by doing proper analysis of the stock and then investing in it would minimize the risk
involved in losing money in stocks. After all this analysis an investor can lose money because
at last the market behavior i.e. whether it is bullish or bearish depends on the buying and
selling of the stocks. At the end I want to conclude this project again by saying this that by
doing this analysis we would reduce risk in stock market it does not guarantee us that we will
not lose money.
