LIST OF TERMS – Digestive System

Biology I, Pre-Health Sciences - Durham College, Fall 2019

INTRODUCTION

The Pre-Health Sciences program at Durham College is designed to prepare you for a variety of
different career paths, from nursing/paramedics to biotechnology/engineering – the list goes on! No
matter what career you are entering, there are several universal skills that you must develop in order to
be successful. They include: working independently, being resourceful, problem solving,
communicating ideas proficiently, managing your time properly, and working in advance. To
encourage you to be independent learners and thinkers, you will be responsible for completing a
variety of different tasks throughout the term. Below is a task that will allow you to learn key terms
within this unit.

TASK

1. Define the terms on the back page using your

textbook or other online resources.

2. Learn these definitions from memory. TIP:

Students often find it helpful to make a set of cue
cards to help learn the material. On one side of the
cue card, write the term. On the other side, include
a written description of the term, a helpful diagram,
and a “memory trick” that will help you to
remember what it does. If you prefer, you could
make your cue cards electronic using a free online
tool, Cram (http://www.cram.com/).

3. Be prepared to discuss these terms in class with

your instructor and professor. Make a list of any
questions that you may have so that you can be sure
to get them answered in class.
