Choosing to become an Elementary Teacher has been my focus for the past 7 years.

have always loved children and seem to light up with joy when I am around them. I began my

path to becoming a teacher when the Lord spoke to be one day while attending bible study.

From their I joined my church and said I was willing to help the youth Department in any way.

In a matter of a year I took the position of Youth Director and have enjoyed the position ever

since. This position along with my volunteering in my own children classrooms has inspired me

to go back to school and get a degree in Elementary Education.

Being a Youth Director I have the joy of developing biblical lesson plans, creating

vacation bible school experience, activities and excursions. I have also had many opportunities

to work one-on-one with youth by being an ear of encouragement, helping them to embrace

their gifts and talents through community events.

At times I do get overwhelmed thinking about responsibilities that a teacher has within

the classroom and with their students. Having to make sure that their students are learning,

achieving goal, reaching standardized assessments is a big responsibility. But overall, I believe

the benefit of being able to reach at least one student would be worth any challenges that I

may face as a teacher.

Progressivism is more than likely the approach I may take when I begin to teach. I feel I

have already taken this approach with my own children and along with working with my youth

at church. Helping to encourage them through whatever excites them, or current interest has

worked and has shown that I have been able to engage with them. Exploring new things and
challenging students to try new things is how I have leaned best growing up and I believe that

students should be excited about everything they learn.

Although I have yet to run my very own classroom historical education and events have

helped to provide insight on how to address a situation that may arise within a classroom.

Setting the mood and atmosphere in the begin of the school year can be essential in how the

overall morale of the class will succeed in their work. And understanding that every detail could

matter when it comes to education.

My current goal within the next few weeks is to apply for a substitute position within

the Clark County School District and apply for substitute licensing. I will also continue to work

towards a bachelor’s degree in Elemntary Education. I believe with my current situation of

being a youth Director at my church and volunteering occasionally at my children school I am

fulling my need to interact with youth. I can’t wait till the day I have my very own classroom to

engage and uplift students to create and become what their hearts desire.
