Teacher Candidate: Gracie Poirier Date: Nov 26, 2019

Grade and Topic: Computer Science 3rd Grade Length of Lesson: 1 week

Mentor Teacher: Prof Kim Pruitt School:University of Memphis

UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

● To present credible, well-organized data using multiple software.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to,
● Recognize credible sources from non-creditable sources.
● Organize data using different software.
● Create a presentation using software that clearly shows data.
● Collaborate with a partner and work together.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
● FCO.4 Use age-appropriate online tools and resources (e.g., tutorial, assessment, web browser).
● FCO.6 Select and use appropriate word processing, spreadsheets, and multimedia applications.
● CC.2 Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.
(e.g., reports, research papers, presentations, newsletters, Web sites, podcasts, blogs), citing sources.
MATERIALS:
● Laptops for in-class participation.
● Internet access
● Prezi
● Spreadsheets
● Owl at Purdue
● Pencil
● Paper
BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
● To give students more tools than just pen and paper. Using technology for research can cut time project times
down and help them receive more material in a shorter amount of time. This will also help them in the future at a
job or everyday life.
● We will have to learn what different websites are credible and how to tell. We will be refreshed on what software
is and how to use it.
● This lesson will put all the lessons about using technology and how to work the laptops together. This is
the hands-on part where we can truly access who gets it.
● Once my students get this 100% we can move on to individual projects and presentations.
● Some children have more experience than others so for some students that don't get it they may need a different
activity so they can understand better before continuing.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

● Introduction: On the first day of the project I will present my powerpoint. I will then break my
powerpoint down and show the students what I did to get to my final product. After answering questions
I will give each group of two a piece of paper with their topic and have them start researching.
● Procedures:
1. Break students up in groups of two. (if there needs to be a group of three that's fine).
2. Give them a sheet of paper with a topic at the top and directions.
3.Have them choose 3 credible websites and write them down.
4.Get them to start their citations for their work sited page for the websites chosen.
5.Have them use spreadsheets to collect and organize their data.
6.Get them to choose a free presentation resource and begin.
7.After they finish putting their data in the powerpoint they will present to the class.
● Closure: After each group has gone we will revisit the importance of technology and I will tell them
how you can use these tools in everyday life and other classes.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
● Students will present a credible and organized presentation on there given topic. They will first turn in
the paper I give them with their names on it. If filled out correctly it will have their names, topic, 3
credible websites, 3 citations, and an outline of their powerpoint. Attached to the paper I want a copy of
their spreadsheet. This powerpoint should include a title slide with a picture related to their topic. It
should also include slides including who, when, and where. The last slide should be devoted to works
cited.

MODIFICATIONS:
● For students who did not master the objective when we start to do individualized projects, I will help them work
through the parts they struggled on. They will have more one on one time with me. I will also give them a
refresher on how I completed the assignment and my expectations.
● Students who are ready to move on will have more freedom with their next project. I will let them choose a topic
and let them get as creative as they want. They will be able to demonstrate their creativity through transitions and
animations in their powerpoint.
